By Dennis Marshall Press-Dispatch Sports Editor sports@pressdispatch.net The Pike Central High School Bass Fishing Team was one of 15 teams to com- pete in the state champion- ship for the Indiana Bass Federation (IBF) Division at Morse Reservoir in Nobles- ville on Saturday, Sept. 14. The top teams from the IBF-North Division and IBF- South Division came togeth- er in a state championship with teams earning points throughout the season, and those with the highest points qualifying for state. The Chargers had a strong showing at the state meet in their first year of a having fishing team. Kayla Gladish and Ty Burns finished third, and Beau Dil- lon and Ashton Evans placed eighth. Brandon Gladish and Norman Dillon served as the boat captains for each team. Pike Central's Wyatt Fra- sure, Hunter Capehart and Paxton Thorne also qualified for the state meet. "These students did a great job throughout the year and fished many difficult tourna- ments in order to earn a spot at state," co-director Carrie Dillon said. "Due to sched- uling conflicts, we needed to substitute to form the two teams that competed at state. "The PCHS Bass Fishing Team would like to send a big thank you to all of our spon- sors, everyone that support- ed us during this first year, all our boat captains, all the par- ents and everyone that had a hand in making our new team and this adventure a success." Chargers fishermen compete at state meet ly getting some of the rec- ognition he deserves," Char- gers' head coach Josh Roach said. "He is one of the hardest workers I know and stays true to the process more than any- one. It's great to see the pro- cess finally loving him back." Roach said the example Woolery sets has started to trickle down to the rest of the team. "Our boys kind of see where they stand right now," he said. "We are going to challenge them in these next few weeks to sacrifice a little more each day. That may be asking them to get just a lit- tle more sleep, or to stretch for just a little more time or to eat just a little healthier. They may not see all of the things that could have an impact on their improvement for the rest of the year, but we are going to spend some time figuring it out and challenging them to do it. "I know one thing, if they are willing to sacrifice, they won't regret it. Even if they don't reach their goals, they won't regret the sacrifice. I can't promise that they won't regret not sacrificing more for their team. That's the mes- sage we will bring to them and we hope it brings them closer together."
