Poplar Street, Petersburg NEWS BRIEFS PCHS Prom this Saturday Pike Central High School's Prom 2019, Twilight in the Garden, will be Saturday, April 27. Seating for Grand March will open at 5 p.m. and announcing will begin at 6 p.m. Spectators are asked to remain in their seats while taking pictures and stay until all names have been announced. Special seating is available for those who cannot climb stairs (see an usher upon ar- rival). Prom will begin with a meal at 7 p.m., followed by music and dancing until 11:30 p.m. Post Prom is sponsored by parents of the junior class and the courtesy of local businesses to provide a fun, safe, after-prom environment. It will take place at Pike Central from midnight until 3:30 a.m. Students must be checked in by 12:30 a.m. If you or your business would like to donate food or prizes to the Post Prom festivi- ties, call 812-354-8478, ext. 480 and leave a message. Family Nature Fest April 27 The seventh annual Family Nature Fest will be Sat- urday, April 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. EDT at the Sycamore Shelter Houses, Ferdinand State Forest, 6583 E. SR 264, Ferdinand. For more information, call 812-827-2857 or email dbegle@dnr.IN.gov Community meal this Sunday evening at The Gathering Place There will be a Community meal at The Gathering Place, 207 Lafayette Street, Winslow, Sunday, April 28 from 5 -6:30 p.m. The meal will be served and provid- ed by the Petersburg German American. Blue Jeans Center hosts Sunday dinner The Blue Jeans Community Center in Monroe City will host Sunday dinner, April 28 from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The menu will include: ham and beans, hot chicken salad, creek potatoes, breaded tomatoes, slaw, corn- bread and dessert. Carry-outs available. All proceeds benefit the center. National Day of Prayer, May 2 National Day of Prayer celebration in Pike County is scheduled for noon, Thursday, May 2 at the Peters- burg Courthouse rotunda. The event is sponsored by the Pike County Ministerial Fellowship. It was estab- lished in 1952 by President Harry Truman as a time for the United States to pray together at one time. This year's celebration will start with the Pike Cen- tral Swing Choir singing the National Anthem in the rotunda. Pledge of Allegiance will be lead by Chuck Froehle; greeting by Rev. Leon D. Pomeroy, Peters- burg First United Methodist Church; opening prayer by Pastor Jim Gidcumb, River of Life Church; scrip- ture reading by R.C. Klipsch, Mayor of Petersburg; the Lord's prayer will be lead by the First Baptist Church; prayer of repentance will be lead by Pastor Tammy Powers; prayer in Unison for the Nation will be lead by Father Frank Renner, of Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church; and closing prayer by Rev. Leon D. Pomeroy. Veale Creek Theatre presents 'The Wizard of OZ' Finishing up the 2018 -2019 Season, the production of The Wizard of Oz will be May 4 at 7:30 p.m. and May 5 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased on- line by visiting www.showtix4u.com and searching for Veale Creek Theatre. Veale Creek Theatre summer camp June 17-21 Summer camp has expanded in a partnership with Washington Community Schools. The camp will run June 17-21 and will be at the WHS auditorium. This year, they will present Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Jr. Stu- dents from surrounding school districts are welcome to participate.
