Heritage Hills Patriots nip Chargers 13-7 Last Tuesday was a bat- tle of swats between Pocket Athletic conference rivals Pike Central and the visit- ing Heritage Hills Patriots. Eleven Charger hits were more than matched with 17 by the Patriots, who pushed four runs across in the first. That pretty much made the difference in the 13-7 loss, despite Pike Central pulling to within one run in the third on hits by Brax- ton Rice, Race Britton and Brennon Benton. The Patriots responded later with three runs in the fifth and then five more in the sixth, before the Char- gers were able to cross the plate again. Three runs in the seventh fell short by six, as Heritage Hills went the distance on the mound with Scherry. He was responsible for three hits, two RBIs and two stolen bases. The Patri- ots amassed 11 RBIs, sev- en stolen bases and com- mitted just one error. Pike Central totaled seven RBIs and had four errors. Race Britton was two of four with three RBIs and one run. Church, Rice, Britton and O'Neal were two of two, and Troy Rick- ard, Draven Huff and Bren- non Benton were one of three and one run each. Charger Braxton Rice helped himself from the plate with two of four hit- ting, including two runs and an RBI. He allowed 10 earned runs in five and a third innings, while strik- ing out three and issuing no walks. Joey Church came in for the last one and two thirds, striking out two and allowing one hit in the process. Scherry issued just one walk, struck out three and allowed seven earned runs in seven in- nings. The Patriots were bolstered by four doubles, 17 total hits, 11 RBIs, seven stolen bases and four Char- ger fielding errors. Chargers: 0 0 4 0 0 0 3 17 11 4 Patriots: 4 0 1 0 3 5 0 13 17 1 Chargers score 15-8 win at Princeton The Princeton Tigers didn't just roll over and give up in their 15 -8 loss on the home diamond with Pike Central, but a slew of big hits off the bats of Braxton Rice, Brennon Benton, Con- nor O'Neal and Troy Rickard set a pace that became unas- sailable. Monday mornings are usually tough, but first in- nings on Monday can be even tougher as demonstrat- ed by the Charger ball club. They jumped out to an ear- ly 3-0 advantage in the first inning, partly on a solo ho- mer from Troy Rickard. The fence became no match for Charger power hitters as Rice and Benton both hom- ered in the 15 -8 road trip win in Gibson County. The Tigers struck back in the third with four runs to make it a one-run affair, but two more runs in the fourth for the visitors put the Ti- gers on notice for good. RBIs by Brennon Ben- ton, Eli Coleman and Draven Huff made for a five-run fifth inning and a 10 -6 advantage after Princeton answered with two runs in the bot- tom of the fifth and also the sixth. A Pike Central four- run seventh put the icing on the cake prior. Joey Church stepped in for Rice to wrap up the game, retiring the side with one strikeout Race Britton engineered the first three innings, al- lowing four hits, walking four, striking out five and allowing no earned runs. Braxton Rice took to the rubber for the next three in- nings, allowing five hits and two earned runs, while strik- ing out two and walking two. Rice contributed two dou- bles and one RBI, with Con- nor O'Neal and Troy Rickard each reaching on a double. Benton accounted for three RBIs, and Rickard, Church, Rice, Coleman and Kyle Wil- liams one each. The team ef- fort included eight hitters, 11 crossing the plate, but just one walk in 39 at bats.
