Two postcards came in this week at Sweets Column Winslow, IN 47598. Postcard # 659 has four scenes from Paris, the Eiffel Tower, a Glass Pyramid, the Arch mon- ument and the Notre-Dame Cathedral. The back reads: "Hi Sweets, I bought this postcard in Paris, that is why it is written in French, sorry. I am with friends from Northern, Ind. Vis- iting their friends in Germany and al- so Luxembourg. The sites and culture are a great experience over here. Max Carlisle, Stendal, Ind." Postcard # 660 has four scenes of a tall monument, cathedrale, palais and statue of Guillaume II, Souvenir de Luxembourg. The back reads: "Hel- lo, Sweets. I had to send you a card from Luxembourg. I didn't know if you had ever gotten one from there. It's a very pretty little country with nice peo- ple and the rural farming countryside is very pretty. Max Carlisle, Stendal, Ind." Thanks, Max, for the postcards. I be- lieve we haven't had a postcard from these places. I can see from the scenes of these places that the architecture is amazing, and the people you meet are real nice to talk to. I think I got some French words cor- rect in what each scene was, because I don't speak French either. It's fun, though to see that language. Winslow Patoka River was lower than the bank, but we have had some storms come in on Thursday and Fri- day so the Patoka may rise some. They are calling for about two inches in our area. A lot of yards have been mowed since the grass has been growing tall with the April showers we have had. The showers helped other things to grow or bloom also, like the Dogwoods that are now in bloom all over Pike County, the lilac bushes have a good fragrance, the apple trees are covered in white blooms and the pink blooms on the peach trees. The rose bushes are acquiring more of the green leaves, the iris and flags are getting taller and so are the daylilies. The animals of the season are out in the fields, like the deer and the wild turkeys we saw when Ted, Terri Ann and I were over at Mom's in Illinois. The Wabash River at Mt. Carmel is just over its banks and the Little Wa- bash River is still over its banks. The Rend Lake area is up, and on that day, the wind was strong enough to cause white caps on the lake. As we were at Mom's, the seven of us went out to eat, and the menu had liver and onions so that is what Ted, Terri Ann and I had. It was really tender and delicious. The rest had either meatloaf, hamburger, wings or beef stew, and the plates of food were enough to bring some home with us in a doggie bag. A fter visiting a while with everyone, we started for home. As we got to the 57 interstate going North, it was a semi truck after semi truck with a few cars and trucks dotted here and there, so we decided not to take that way. We took the back road. As we traveled this road, almost next to the interstate, the semi trucks were still not moving un- til we traveled several miles. By that time, we were almost to Mt. Vernon. Deby said that a car did an illegal U- turn and the semi truck couldn't stop in time and went into the median on its side. That caused traffic to halt for about six hours. I don't know if people were hurt or not, but nothing was said on the news. Winslow has two part-time workers by the names of Jesse and Norm, who you have probably seen around town these past couple weeks with Steve and Nathan. They have been busy do- ing all types of town work from patch- ing, scraping, weedeating, mowing, fix- ing leaks and quite a lot more. Since the paving people are in town, some of the streets may be a little rougher than usual, so be careful. Easter is Sunday, but as you read this column, it has passed. I hope your weekend was great and kids, I hope the Easter Bunny was nice to you so you found all those eggs. Several church- es had Good Friday services, and the Easter morning sunrise services for the death and rising from the grave. Well it's time to dim the lights on this week's ramblings. Keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all of the wonders in your area. Always smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week.
