Postcards this week at Sweets Col- umn Winslow, IN 47598 were none in the ol' mailbox. Winslow Patoka River is half full. The trees with all the fall colors have fallen to the ground and what leaves are still on the trees are green, brown, red, or brunt. They are a bit of beau- ty in the wooded areas. Just about all the beans and corn are gathered for the ground to rest until spring arrives. Lots of animals have been seen on the roadways, but unfortunately it wasn't the right time to cross the road. Those leaves that fell in the past few weeks from the wind had covered your lawn, has either been raked up or mulched by the lawn mower. We had lot of limbs to pick up also. A fter all the yard work and gathering more wood in the cab- in for the cozy comfy warmth, we de- cided to build another step at the cab- in double doors. Our last step was too weathered, and now this step is lon- ger, and because of a skid and some wood planks, we have a stronger and longer step. Last week, the McDonald boys gave Junior a big surprise as they invited family and friends to eat a fine tur- key dinner and enjoy their time with Junior. He was surprised to see and talk to so many who came that night. Junior looks great as he sat in the wheelchair and he got to say to me "Hi Lau- rie" and he hasn't got to say that in a long time. If you knew my Grandma Laura Meyer, then you may know that I resemble her and now I look like my mom, Mildred, also. Any- way, the food served was real tasty and thanks to everyone who came to enjoy the company of the McDonald family. I also have learned that the McDonalds have lived in the Brownstown part of Winslow since the 1930s, and as of this year, they have all moved away, some are still in Pike County. Norm and I have seen several stars in this past week like Tom and Happy Vinnedge, Gordon Barnett, Scott and his girlfriend and her son, Wesley, who is shy, Tim and Jeanette and Coonie. Then on Saturday and Sunday, we got to see Kyana, and she is growing tall- er each time we see her. We hope your Thanksgiving Day with family was great and if you trav- eled somewhere that your travels were fun. Our family of 10 met at Crackle Barrel in Mt. Vernon, Ill. We all had a delicious turkey with all the trim- mings and pumpkin pie, and we got so full that when we got to George's house some of us took a nap and the rest of us talked about things and en- joyed the time with family. Before we all went our different ways, we made plans for Christmas and who brings what for more fun with family. On the road on Thanksgiving, I saw some yards decorations with the tur- key, pilgrims, pumpkins, and they were great to see. Coming back home, the lights of Christmas were in sever- al yards. In Winslow, we see that the Bolin's in Eastend is all lit up and sev- eral more yards in that area of town. Then at the Brownstown part of town, a house on 3rd Street and the Tyring house looks great. More and more I guess will start their decorating in the near future, but they all will bring a smile to everyone's face. As the lights begin to dim on this weeks ramblings, I hope you keep an eye on family and friends, slow down and see all the beauty in your area. Watch out for the deer on the run, wel- come to Winslow, Sherry and Blackie, who just moved in, and always smile, wave, and say Hi to everyone you see this week at the Christmas parades.
