Liberty Taylor and Kahle Young added four points each as the Lady Chargers im- proved to 5 -1 with their sec- ond victory in as many nights – despite making just five of 19 attempts from the free throw line. "I was very proud of their ef- fort and energy tonight," said Pike Central eighth grade girls' basketball coach Eric Knight, whose team defeat- ed visiting Washington Cath- olic 45 -19 on Monday, Nov. 19. "It's tough playing back-to- back nights. I could tell the girls were tired, and that was a lot of the reason for the bad charity stripe percentage We were shooting with our arms and not our legs." Taylor and Williams scored four points each during the first quarter as the Lady Chargers took an 11-4 lead. Williams, Delaney Welch and Keena Young netted two points each during the second period as Pike Central extend- ed its lead to 18 -6 at the half- time intermission. Trailing 25 -12 at the end of three periods, the Lady Elites outscored Pike Central 15 -8 in the fourth quarter. "Haubstadt played a tough man-to-man defense and got after the ball handlers," 7th & 8th grade girls' basketball teams sweep pair from Haubstadt PAC and 6 -3 overall. North Posey was 4-3 in the PAC and 5 -4 overall. Tell City was 2-5 in the PAC and 3- 6 overall. South Spencer was 2-5 in the PAC and 2-7 overall. Forest Park was 1-6 in the PAC and 1-8 overall. Pike Central was 1-6 in the PAC and 1-8 overall. Knight said. "I was hoping they would. That is something we need to work on, and it was a good test for the girls. We get ball handling down better and we will be a fun team to watch and a hard team to defend." Williams, after scoring six first-half points, netted 13 of Pike Central's 15 points during the second half, with Kahle Young accounting for the other two. "Chloe played another great all-around game for us," Knight said of Williams, who hit three of eight tries from the free throw line. "She is devel- oping into a great post girl and developing her moves to the basket." Taylor, meanwhile, spent much of the game on the bench in foul trouble, Knight noted, before picking up her fifth personal foul during the fourth quarter. "As a coach, I was happy to see some of them," Knight said. "Two of them were try- ing to take a charge and two were coming over on help side to help her teammates," Knight said. "Overall, the girls did a great job," Knight added. "Kahle and Keena Young both did outstanding bring - ing the ball up against pres- sure and getting into the at- tack mode. Kennedy Willis once again shut down every- one in the gym with Mad Dog D. She takes great pride in it and is very fun to watch. She knew what Haubstadt had and shut down their scorer." Welch scored three points for the Lady Chargers while Keena Young and Jaylynn Capehart tossed in two points and one point, respectively. Alexis Tucker paced Haub- stadt with 15 points.
