She was one of three people arrested for driving while intoxicated in the last week in Pike County. Mandi D. Jeffries, 44, of 210 S. 18th St., Petersburg, was arrested on a charge of operating a vehicle while in- toxicated. Petersburg Police Cpl. Kyle Mills said he was dispatched to a report of a crash on HIghway 57 near CR50W, where a woman had run off the road and rolled over in a Chevrolet Blazer. Cpl. Mills said he re- sponded to the accident be- cause the Sheriff's Depart- ment was busy on another incident. Mills said when he arrived he found the Blazer upside down off the north- bound side of Highway 57 and several other vehicles there. He located Jeffries, who told him she was the driver and said, "Yes, I have been drinking." While talking with Jef- fries, Mills said she started yelling at bystanders who were about 20 feet away. He placed her in handcuffs for several minutes and then took the handcuffs off when she agreed to not be bellig- erent. She refused going to the hospital and failed field sobriety tests. Cpl. Mills in his report noted Jeffries, while getting instructions on the sobriety tests, kept leaning past him and mak- ing obscene gestures at the bystanders. She was taken to the Pike County Jail, where she test- ed 0.125 for blood alcohol content. The legal limit in Indiana is 0.08 percent. A Wheatland man was ar- rested late Friday after po- lice stopped him for driving left of center on Highway 56 about a mile east of High- way 61. Jeffrey A. Earls, 55, of Wheatland was stopped by Indiana State Trooper Chase Eaton at about 10 :30 p.m. Trooper Eaton said Earls nearly had all four wheels in the westbound lane of Highway 56 while driving near CR500E. Trooper Ea- ton said while talking to Earls, he smelled alcohol and marijuana. Trooper Ea- ton said Earls told him he had thrown marijuana and a smoking pipe out the win- dow after Eaton turned on his emergency lights. A search of his vehicle lo- cated marijuana and con- trolled-substance pills. He was taken to the Pike Coun- ty Jail, where he tested 0.113 for blood alcohol and posi- tive for marijuana. He was preliminarily charged with possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia and oper- ating a vehicle while intoxi- cated, obstruction of justice and possession of a sched- ule I, II, III, or IV controlled substance. A Jasper man was ar- rested on alcohol and drug charges after police stopped him for speeding. Phil L. Schroeder, 58, of Jasper was arrested by In- diana State Trooper C. J. Boeckman. Trooper Boeckman said Pike County Sheriff's Depu- ty Jason McKinney clocked Schroeder driving 72 mph in a 55 zone on Highway 56 near the truck entrance to the Charger Mine. He was stopped at the Cato-Win- slow Road. Trooper Boeck- man said while assisting Deputy McKinney with the stop, he noticed the odor of alcohol while talk- ing to Schroeder. Trooper Boeckman said Schroeder was unable to give a PBT sample. He was taken to the Daviess County Hospi- tal where he tested positive for meth. Trooper Boeck- man said while transport- ing Schroeder back to Pike County he admitted hav- ing meth at his residence. Boeckman said a search of Schroeder's residence located a small amount of meth.
