Kendric Sorgis ran for two two-point conversions and completed a pass to Peyton Howald for another. Peyton Howald also ran for one two-point conversion as the Chargers picked up their first win of the sea- son after opening with four straight losses. "Coach ( Jared) Froder- man called a great offensive game," Pike Central head coach Jeremy Howald said. "Even when we had penal- ties and got backed up, he was able to make calls that helped get us back in good shape. Our line and Jagar did a phenomenal job as we rushed for at least 180 yards in this game." "Defensively, we were impress across the board," Jeremy Howald added. "We have some key players out with injuries, but the oth- ers just came in and filled their shoes. I'm very proud of them all. They all stepped up and played great." Jeremy Howald said that he was especially proud of one player – Braden Blount. "Braden played the best I have ever seen him play," Jeremy Howald explained. "He did his job really well and made tackles all night long." In the seventh grade contest, a late touchdown boosted the host Vikings past Pike Central 32-26. "We had the lead with three minutes to go and they had the ball on our 40, fourth-and-forever," Jeremy Howald said. "We stopped them, but as we tackled the runner, we grabbed the facemask, which gave them a first down. They eventual- ly scored and took the lead with, like, 19 seconds to go." On its ensuing posses- sion, Pike Central complet- ed a pass on first down, then threw a deep pass that fell incomplete as time expired. "Their defenders clearly interfered with our receiv- er, but there was no call and time was up," Jeremy How- ald said. "If we would have gotten that call, we would have been in scoring posi- tion with one play left, but we didn't." Despite the loss, howev- er, Jeremy Howald said that he was proud of the team. "We played 13 players in that game due to inju- ries and they had 25," Jere- my Howald said. "We gave them all they wanted and more." "The best thing about the night was the teamwork in both games," he added. "No finger pointing, no ar- guing – just encouraging each other and working to- gether. Forget the score. Forget that we won. This is what we have been waiting to see all year and I hope it continues."
