The girls are getting better at post defense, which they have been working on. Next will be to close out on outside shooters. We need to work harder on defense and take more pride on that end of the floor." Jo Whitehead led in scoring with 9 points, Hannah Yager 8, Sydney Brooks 6, Abby Hillyard 2 and Kiersten Gish 2. Also playing were Amy Chastain, Michaela Greener, Kaitlyn Foster and Alexis McDowell. The Lady Chargers eighth graders staged a big rally in the second half to down the Haubstadt girls 24-13 in a game Monday night to improve to 3-9 on the season. The two teams each scored six points in the opening period and Haubstadt had a 3-0 margin in the second to lead 9-6 at halftime. The Lady Chargers came back with a 6-0 in the third period to lead 12-9 going into the final frame. The Lady Chargers kept up their scoring charge with a 12-4 edge to win by 11 points, 24-13. "The first half of this game started out very slow. We missed a lot of easy layups again. After halftime I think a different group of girls came out of the locker room. Their defense was tons better and we knocked down some lay-ups. Sydney Brooks and Jo Whitehead both had a good game driving the ball and opening up the floor for others. We are still struggling at the free throw line, but that is something we will work on at practice. This team is getting better every game," said Coach Knight. Brooks put in 14 points, Whitehead 8 and Yager 2. Also playing were Hillyard, Ashley Harris, McDowell, Gish, Foster, Cassidy Brothers, Greener and Chastain.
