Poplar Street, Petersburg Deadline: 5 p.m. on Monday INEZ L. HORRELL Inez L. Horrell, 98, of Petersburg, died Monday, April 11, 2016, at Amber Manor Care Center in Pe - tersburg. She was born Sept. 16, 1917, in Littles community, the daughter of Jasper and Carrie (Loveless) Jerrell. She married Johnny Hor- rell and he preceded her in death July 10, 1958. Inez was a very loving mother and grandmother. She attended the Free Meth- odist Church of Petersburg and was a 62-year member of the VFW Ladies Auxilia- ry No. 3587. She is survived by her daughter, Sherry (Russell) Braun; grandchildren, Ter- ry (Laurie) Braun, and An- gie (Brian) Davis, both of Petersburg, J.D. (Li- sa) Burton, of Newburgh, Chris (Terri) Burton, of Princeton, and Gaynecia (Tim) Keusch, of Jasper; 12 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and neph- ews. She was preceded in death by her son, Jerry L. Burton; sisters, Catherine Brewster, Thelma Hazelton, Doris Dawson, and Ruth Pierce; and brothers, Emil Jerrell and Robert Jerrell. Funeral services were Thursday, April 14, 2016, at 1 p.m. EDT at Harris Funer- al Home, with Pastor Paul Newton officiating. Burial was in Walnut Hills Ceme- tery, Petersburg. Visitation was from 11 a.m. Thursday EDT until service time. CHARLES A. KELLER, SR. Charles A. Keller, Sr., 75, of Otwell, passed away at 11:45 p.m., on Saturday, April 16, 2016, in Hunting - burg. He was born October 5, 1940, in Jasper, to Alvin and Anna (Reiker) Keller. Charles worked as a house mover and retired as a fore- man for Buchta Leasing, Inc.'s House Movers divi- sion in Otwell. He was a member of St. Mary's Cath- olic Church in Ireland and the Otwell "Circle A Gossip Center." He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Phyllis R. (Milner) Keller, who passed away March 9, 2006; one sister, Rita Coo- per; and four brothers, Rob- ert, John, Richard and Don- ald Keller. He is survived by three daughters and one son-in- law, Shelly Garrison, of Vin- cennes, Mrs. Tina ( Joe) Byrd, of Huntingburg, and Lisa Harker, of Mount Car- mel, Ill.; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Charles (Renaee) Keller, Jr., of Loo- gootee, and Jamie (fiancé, Tenille Fitch) Keller, of Ot- well.; three sisters and one brother-in-law, Jenny Butler, of Jasper, Mrs. Rosie (Da- vid) Peters, of Ferdinand, and Vera Price, of Green- field; 18 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. EDT, on Wednesday, April 20, 2016, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Ireland, with burial to follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Ireland. DANA COLLEEN CARTER Dana Colleen Carter, 79, of Petersburg, died at 11:35 a.m. Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at Core Nursing Home in Dale. She was born in Pike County, October 17, 1936, to Lester and Maxine (Rob- erts) Postin, both deceased. She was formerly employed as a nurses' aide at Memori- al Hospital in Jasper and as a cook at Pike Central prior to her retirement. Surviving are her hus- band, Robie Carter, of Pe- tersburg; three sons, Ro- bie Carter, Jr., and Richard Carter, both of Hunting- burg, and Rickie R. Carter, of Selvin; two daughters, Robin Fellers, of Evansville, and Janet Lynn Padgett, of North Carolina; three broth- ers, Jimmy Postin and Shel- by Postin, both of Boonville, and George Postin, of South America; two sisters, Mar- lene Meredith and Karla Fedder; 12 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren. She formerly attended Winslow General Baptist Church. Funeral services were Saturday, April 16, 2016, at 10 a.m. EDT at Harris Fu- neral Home, with Richard E. Carter officiating. Visi- tation was from 4 to 8 p.m. EDT, Friday, April 15, 2016, and Saturday from 9 a.m. un- til service time at the funeral home. Burial was in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Velpen. In lieu of flowers, memo- rial contributions may be made to PAWS in Peters- burg. JOHN E. GENTRY John E. Gentry, 60, of Pe- tersburg passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2016, at St. Joe Mission Hospital in Asheville, N.C. He was born on April 17, 1955, in Evansville, to John B. and Dorothy (Stogsdill) Gentry. He worked at Han- sen's Manufacturing for 20 + years and then worked con- struction. He is survived by two sons, Jered ( Jamie) Gen- try and Chris (Amanda) Gentry, both of Princeton; mother, Dorothy Gentry, of Petersburg; nine grandchil- dren; brother, Jerry Gentry; and sisters, Gayle Sandwell, Crystal Foster and Julie Hy- att. He was preceded in death by his father, John Gentry; and a brother, Gilbert Ray Gentry. Graveside services were at noon CDT, on Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Mt. MARJORIE CHRISTINA (LOVELESS) COURTNEY Marjorie Christina Courtney, 88, born in Oak- land City, on Dec. 11, 1927, passed away on Friday, April 15, 2016, at John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville. She was a graduate of Re- itz High School, an LPN and retired from St. Mary's Hos- pital. She previously worked for A & P for almost 25 years in Mt. Vernon, Ind., Mem- phis, Tenn., Clarksville, Tenn., and Evansville, and until recently had resided in Evansville since 1954. She was of the General Baptist faith and preceded in death by her parents Mary Sylvia ( Jaynes) Loveless and Columbus Loveless; two older sisters Janieve and Lydia Rose; two older broth- ers, James and Joseph, and infant brother John. Surviving are one daugh- ter, Mary Jo Lee and son-in- law Morris, of Owensboro, Ky.; and one grandson, Jon David Willingham of New York City, N.Y. The family would like to thank the entire staff at Transcendent Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Boonville for their excellent and compassionate care. Al- so, gratitude is expressed to John and Betty Charlier Hospice Center, Evansville. MYRTLE JANE STEELE Myrtle Jane Steele, 96, of Petersburg, passed away peacefully at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, April 17, 2016, at Jasper Memorial Hospital. She was born July 10, 1919, in Pike County, to Em- ory and Carrie (McGillem) Jerrell. In 1946, she married Herbert M. Steele. Preceding her in death were her husband; two brothers, Ancl and Mont, and a half-brother, Floyd Jerrell. Myrtle enjoyed quilting, eating out, working cross- word puzzles, going to the fair, and family get-togeth- ers. Her infectious laugh, her gentle spirit, and her kind heart endeared her to family and friends. Surviving are her sister- in-law, Mona (Steele) Mc- Gillem; her primary care- givers, nephew Mike Jerrell and wife Pam; three nieces; three other nephews; and many great-and great-great- nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Har- ris Funeral Home from 10 a.m. until noon Wednesday, April 20, 2016, and graveside services to follow, with Rev. Chalmer Burden officiating. PANSY SAUNDERS Pansy (Ficklin) Rich- ardson Saunders, 92, of Salisbury, N.C., died Sat- urday, April 9, 2016, at No- vant Health Rowan Medical Center. She was born in Peters- burg, Nov. 5, 1923, the daughter of Julius Riley and Grace Mae (Kline) Ficklin, both deceased. She was ed- ucated at Needmore School. She was employed with William Hefner Medical Center as a psychiatric nurs- ing assistant for 28 years. She was an active member of Trinity Wesleyan Church, where she served in several positions. Surviving are two daugh- ters, Martha Richardson, of Salisbury, N.C., and Sara (Leon) Ramseur, of Gas- tonia, N.C.; two sons, Far- rell (Antoinette) Saunders, of Gaffney, S.C., and David (Dawn) Saunders, of Paw- ley's Island, S.C.; 10 grand- children; 18 great-grandchil- dren; a sister, June (Curt) Goad, of Indianapolis; four brothers, Marvin (Rebec- ca) Ficklin, of Clarksville, Tenn., Jerry ( Judy) Ficklin, of Shepherdstown, W.Va., Fred (Anita) Ficklin, of Indi- anapolis; and Larry (Dina) Ficklin, of Greenville, Ill. She was preceded in death by husbands, Em- mett Addison Richardson and Rev. Dallas Roy Saun- ders; twin sisters, Maybelle and Adelle Ficklin; brother, Claude Eugene Ficklin; son, Rev. Steven Saunders; two granddaughters; and one great-granddaughter. A Celebration of Life was Wednesday, April 13, 2016, at 1 p.m. at Trinity Wes- leyan Church in Salisbury, N.C., with Rev. Wilson Har- ris and Rev. James Falk offi- ciating. Burial was in Rowan Memorial Park Cemetery. MARTHA ANNE DIXON Martha Anne Dixon, 91, of Evansville, passed away April 11, 2016, in Indianap- olis. She was born Sept. 14, 1924, in Winslow, the daugh- ter of Clarence B. and Bo- nita E. (Davis) Barnett. Growing up in Winslow, her grandparents owned a local restaurant, the Da- vis Café, where she devel- oped a love of cooking. A f- ter high school as World War II was waged, she returned to Evansville with her fam- ily and was honored to be crowned the May Queen. She worked at the Evans- ville Shipyard. She was an active member of Eastside Baptist Church and currently a member of Church of the Cross. She is survived by her husband of 71 years, Wen- dell L. Dixon, of Evansville; her children, Anne Vaughan, Mary Jane ( Wayne) Hills, Wendell S. Dixon and Becky Sue (Robert) Quirey; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016, at Church of the Cross in Evansville, with Dr. Jack Eberhardt officiating. Buri- al was in Oak Hill Mausole- um. She was born in Lebanon, Ind., Sept. 5, 1958, to Walter C. and Dorothy G. ( Wade) Sutt. She married Joe Cum- mings June 26, 2004, and he survives. She had worked at Toyota as an inspector. Surviving besides her par- ents and husband, Joe, are two sons, Joe Martinez and Mike Martinez, both of Pe- tersburg; a daughter, Mindy Chiaxxon, of Olney, Ill.; six brothers; and two sisters. Funeral services were at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 19, 2016, at Harris Funeral Home, with Rev. Eddie Willis offi- ciating. Burial was in Mc- Clure Cemetery. Miller Cemetery e Annual Meeting of the Miller Cemetery, Inc. will be ursday, May 5 at 7p.m. ( Pike Co. time ) at Steve Krieg's house - 305 N. Center St., Francisco, Ind.
