Huck placed first with a time of 25.25 seconds, best- ing the previous school-re- cord time of 25.71 seconds set by Barry Welch in 1982. Other first-place finish- es posted by the Chargers were Nate Woolery in long jump, Dakota Taylor in dis- cus, Zeb Frasure in shot put, Sam Theising in the 110 -meter hurdles, Huck in the 100 -meter dash and the seventh grade 400 -me- ter relay team. Placing second were Colt Armstrong in high jump and the 100 -yard dash, Huck in long jump, Frasure in discus, Andrew Claridge in the 110 -meter hurdles and the 300 -me- ter hurdles, the 3,200 -me- ter relay team and the 1,600 -meter relay team. Posting third-place fin- ishes were Joel Henson in high jump, Avery Dyer in discus, Colten Gideon in shot put, Tyler Kirby in the 100 -meter dash and the seventh grade 200 -meter dash, and Jaggar Gladish in the 300 -meter hurdles. In the girls' meet, the La- dy Chargers lost to South- ridge 73-63. Posting first-place fin- ishes for Pike Central were Libby Stone in long jump, Lexie Neese in dis- cus, Hadley Holder in shot put, Lauren Young in the 300 -meter hurdles and the 3,200 -meter relay team. Placing second for the Lady Chargers were Lily Willis in long jump, Hold- er in discus, Shelby Sisk in shot put, Stone in the 400 -meter dash, Jenna McLain in the 200 -meter dash, the seventh grade 400 -meter relay team, the eighth grade 400 -meter re- lay team and the 1,600 -me- ter relay team. Third-place finishers were Jayln Nelson in high jump, Angelina Ruiz in discus, Maddie Williams in the 100 -meter hurdles, McLain in the 100 -me- ter dash, Cora Anson in the 400 -meter dash, Wil- lis in the 800 -meter run and Stone in the 200 -me- ter dash. Pike Central opened its season against North Posey and host Tecumseh on Tuesday, April 12, with both the boys and girls placing first. In the boys' meet, the Chargers scored 89 points, while North Posey was sec- ond with 45 points. Placing first for Pike Central were Dakota Taylor in discus, Zeb Frasure in shot put, Sam Theising in the 110 -meter hurdles and the 400 -meter dash, Nate Woolery in the 1,600 -me- ter run and the 800 -meter run and the eighth grade 400 -meter relay team. In the girls' meet, Pike Central placed first with 74 points, followed by North Posey (58 points) and Te- cumseh (7). Posting first-place fin- ishes for Pike Central were Jayln Nelson in high jump, Lexie Neese in discus, Lau- ren Young in the 100 -me- ter hurdles, Libby Stone in the 400 -meter dash, Addi- son Faulk in the 300 -meter hurdles, the eighth grade 400 -meter relay team of Nelson, Jenna McLain, Lily Willis and Cora An- son, and the 1,600 -meter relay team. Placing second for the Lady Chargers were Stone in long jump, Hadley Hold- er in shot put, McLain in the 100 -meter dash, Young in the 400 -meter dash, Wil- lis in the 800 -meter run, Stone in the 200 -meter dash and the seventh grade 400 -yard relay team. Third-place finishers for Pike Central were Willis in long jump, Shelby Sisk in shot put, Nelson in the 100 -meter dash, Lily Fred- erick-Rice in the 1,600 -me- ter run and the 800 -meter run, and McLain in the 200 -meter dash. "It was a great open- ing meet for us as the kids could see that the hard work we have put in has paid off," Pike Central head coach Jeremy Howald said. Pike Central, which host- ed South Knox and Gibson Southern on Tuesday, April 19, will compete at Prince- ton on Saturday, April 23, starting at 10 a.m., and at Washington on Tuesday, April 26, at 5:30 p.m. PCMS girls' tennis team wins one of three matches The Pike Central Middle School girls' tennis team went 1-2 over the last week, defeating visiting South Knox 3-2 on Tues- day, April 12, dropping a 3-2 loss at South- ridge on Thursday, April 14, and dropping a 3-2 loss to visiting Vincennes Clark on Monday, April 18. Senior Cheyanna Padgett placed second in high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 6 inches, and fifth in pole vault with a leap of 7 feet, 6 inches, while freshman Alyssa Jen- kins placed fifth in shot put with a season-best throw of 29 feet, 4.75 inches. The team of senior Ivy Sullivan, junior Kaitlyn Fos- ter, sophomore Halley Pow- ers and freshman Lillie Pan- cake placed fourth in the 1,600 -meter relay with a season-best time of 4:35.97, the team of junior Abby Hill- yard, seniors Makaila Ma- son and Candie Miller and juniors Abby Hillyard and Selena Carpenter placed fifth in the 3,200 -meter re- lay with a time of 13:33.72, and the team of Hendrix- son, sophomore Taylor Def- fendoll and freshmen Erin Craig and Alyssa Jenkins placed fifth in the 400 -me- ter relay. As a team, Pike Central scored a total of 28 points, trailing Jasper (204 points), Southridge (48), Forest Park (38) and Northeast Du- bois (29). The Lady Chargers, who hosted South Spencer on Monday, April 18, will host the Pike Central Invitational on Thursday, April 21, start- ing at 6 p.m., before travel- ing to Washington on Mon- day, April 25.
