Tuesday, April 19: Strom- boli square, garden spin- ach salad, fresh celery and strawberries. Wednesday, April 20 : Chicken nuggets, mashed potatoes w/gravy, steamed broccoli and a banana. During Newspaper in Education Week Otwell Elementary second graders reviewed nonfiction text features. Students are shown cutting exam- ples of text features from the newspaper. Above and Left: Second graders participated in an online St. Patrick's Day experiment to deter- mine if Lucky Charms have mostly clover marsh- mallows. 133 classrooms across the US partici- pated and counted a total of 61,221 marshmal- lows. After tallying the marshmallows the second graders made graphs online to display the results. Below: Otwell Elementary Student Council re- cently were given a tour of Somebody's Place. Here, Aileen Grubb, tells the students how items are donated, cleaned and stored in their store- room. Otwell Elementary students and staff recently conducted a peanut butter and jelly drive. Student Council members delivered the goods to Some- body's Place in Petersburg. After telling the stu- dents how much those items would help, Aileen Grubb from Somebody's Place, pictured here with student council members, gave the students a group hug. Above: April is "Prevent Child Abuse" month. In 2008, Prevent Child Abuse America intro- duced the pinwheel as the new national symbol for child abuse prevention. Petersburg Elementa- ry is showing support to prevent child abuse by placing pinwheels in our front lawn. PES, fifth grade Peer Mediators, Kennedy Willis and Bry- cen Knepp put pinwheels outside the school on Tuesday morning. Right: Mrs. Bennett's third grade classroom is working really hard to pass their multiplication facts through 12. Aubree McGowan, Kelsea Que- ry, Taniya Lamb, and Clay Galloway are quizzing each other to make sure they know the answers. Sherry Tredway and Lexie Shoultz, visited first grade with a program about disability awareness. Zayne Bell read a passage as it would appear to a person with dyslexia. Above & Below: Mrs. McKinney's first grade class was awarded a pizza party for collecting the most Box Tops. Jessa Ridao and Aaron Gadber- ry enjoyed the pizza. Charleigh Pancake, Dracaul Fessler, and Caleigh Atkins had a good time! Otwell Elementary's TERRIFIC Kids for the month of February were, (l to r): Karly Morson, Alyssa Young, Jaylynn Capehart, Shane Woodhull and Lainey Leighty.
