For the first time in modern histo- ry, both Democrat and Re- publican presidential rac- es are still undecided. That may change between now and the May 3 primary, but both parties' races appear to be tightening. Election Day in Indiana is Tuesday, May 3, with polls open from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. However, early voting is now open from 8 a.m. to noon and 1 to 5 p.m. Mon- day through Friday un- til Friday, April 29, in the clerk's office on the sec- ond floor of the courthouse. The clerk's office will also be open on Saturday, April 23 and Saturday, April 30, as well as Monday, May 2 from 8 a.m. to noon. There are no local races in the primary other than for the Democrat Delegate to State Convention. There are six at-large positions, with the county chair be- ing an automatic seventh delegate. The seven Demo- crats filing for the delegate are: Anisia Burkhart, Chris Burkhart, Sara Field, Twy- la Flint, Thomas Hensler, Sr., David Tisdale and Brad Hampton. In the primary, Democrat voters will vote for six of the seven. There is a two-way race on the Republican tick- et in the primary to nom- inate a U.S. Senator can- didate. The candidates are Marlin Stutzman and Todd Young. Stutzman's wife, Christy, was in Pe- tersburg last week talk- ing with people at Cakes and Coffee. Stutzman, 39, is a farmer who was elect- ed to Congress in Indiana's Third District. The Third District covers a 10 -coun- ty area around Fort Wayne in northeast Indiana. Young, 43, has served as the U.S. Ninth District Congressman since 2011. The Ninth District covers an area that stretches from the southside of Indianapo- lis to New Albany. The winning Republican will face former Democrat U.S. Ninth District Con- gressman Baron Hill. There is a race for the Eighth District Congress on the Republican tick- et. Incumbent Republican Larry Bucshon is being challenged by Dr. Richard Moss.
