The Press-Dispatch Church Wednesday, Februar y 13, 2019 C- 3 all mankind, we cannot jus- tifiably build walls between ourselves and others when it cost Him the life of His only Son, Jesus Christ, to tear these walls of partition down. We have no right to har- bor ill feelings toward oth- ers, no matter how those feelings have come into be- ing, when God Himself, the One we have sinned against, has provided the means by which all people can be rec- onciled to Him. As a result of our new relationship with Him, we must extend and of- fer forgiveness to those who have wronged us. It is wise to remember that a right relationship with God is revealed in a right re- lationship with the people we are daily in contact with. "We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, "I love God," yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Who- ever loves God must also love his brother." Have you ever tried to learn something simply by watching and copying some- one else? How did that go? You might be able to mim- ic them, but did you get the same results? Faith can't be mimicked. You must devel- op your own faith. How? By having a relationship with your Savior. Read His word. Spend time in solitude with Him. You can't get results for your prayers on someone else's faith, even if they are prayer warriors. You must have enough faith to receive. MAIN STREET PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH 10th and Main Streets, Petersburg 812-354-6844 Sunday worship 10 :30 a.m.; Youth group Monday evening at 6 p.m. Come vis- it us. Our doors are always open to you. What will you give up? During Lent, some Chris- tians give up a luxury or vice as a form of self-deni- al or to practice self-control. Ultimately, such a sacrifice should benefit one's spiritu- al walk with Jesus, who gave everything. A Missouri teenager de- cided to give up talking for Lent. Decklan Conway, 13, communicated through dry- erase boards, going through three markers in less than a week. Although he lost a few friends because he wouldn't talk, Decklan wrote, "I'm do- ing it for a greater purpose." He added, "God gave up his only Son for us...What are you willing to give up? " A worthy corollary to that question is "What will you take on? " What can you do for God's kingdom during this season of reflection and re-commitment? Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Richard Comer, Pastor those you love, just how much. Where does Valentine's Day love come from? The Bible tells us that love is from God and that God is love. He loves us even when we're not lovable and when we're grumpy or doing bad things. He loves all of us no matter what. The tricky part is loving others like God loves us. There is a special kind of love we can have for others, it's called agape love. This doesn't have to be mushy love, just see people as God would see them. Pretend for a day that you have special glass- es on and that everyone you see you love just because God loves them. I'm sure you'll run into somebody you don't think de- serves your love or you just don't want to love at all, but God loves them and if we love God, we are supposed to love them, too. What are some ways that we can love God? It's not as hard as you think. How do you show others you love them? We talk to them, try to get to know them better, listen to them and sometimes we do things for them. We can do all these things for God.
