There were no postcards this week at Sweets Column, Winslow, IN 47598. The Winslow Patoka River is now over its banks with all the rain we had last week. That also brought along with it the 45 -65 mph winds and the F-1 tornadoes that came in the area last Thursday. Winslow had the elec- tric go off for a second or two, but the rain that came down had left many with rivers that flowed through the yards and left in its place ponds and lakes for almost all the rest of that day, even after the rain had stopped. The temps changed also as the north wind brought in the freezing teens for two nights. It was nice to walk on the lawn and not sink up to your ankles, but I guess that won't last long with rising temps in the 40s. We saw on the news that Oakland City got hit again with an F-1 tornado and I believe somewhere around Deck- er. We are all glad that no one was in- jured. Last week, some laundry was put in the washer, but when the final rinse was suppose to spin, the wash- er made an awful sound, so I thought it could be like an unbalance, but it wasn't. This ended up that since the clothes still had water in them, the wringing out on each item had to be done be- fore they went into the dryer. In just a couple of days and yes, it was rain- ing and the yard was muddy mess, Laura had ordered a washer and dry- er to be delivered. The new machines are working great and thanks, Laura. Norm and I had taken out the old items and then we hooked up the new ones and does anyone need a balloon, we have seven of them? Norm and I went to the meeting for the Zoning Board, where there wasn't enough to hold a meeting, so they all discussed several questions brought up and will meet on March 5 at 6 p.m. at the Winslow Town Hall, where more members will be present. At the Winslow Lions Club meet- ing, there were several members who couldn't make it because of illness, but we were really happy to see Lin- da and she is looking better every day. This was our meal meeting and even Pat had to leave to be with Bill, but the beef stew was delicious with homemade bread and Debra made an apple scotch bread pudding that a rec- ipe needs to be wrote out for me. As the lights begin to dim on this week, I hope your Valentine's Day is all you hope for with your loved ones. Keep an eye on family and friends and help them out in whatever you can do. Slow down and enjoy what scenery is all around and don't be in such a hur- ry all the time. Then as always, smile, wave and say Hi to everyone you see this week. Happy Valentine's Day! build confidence and self-re- liance that they can build on as they grow.
