Hagemeyer, 82, of Stendal, passed away at 4:53 p.m., Friday, Febru- ary 8, 2019, in the emergen- cy room of Deaconess Mid- town Hospital in Evansville. He was born March 21, 1936, in Stendal, to McKin- ley and Norma K. (Henke) Hagemeyer; and married Dee Ann Oxley on August 9, 1959, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stendal. He was a retired teach- er, basketball coach and track coach with the War- rick County School Corpo- ration, spending many years at Lynnville Elementary and Ella Williams Elementary schools. He enjoyed writing, storytelling, woodworking, I.U. Basketball and break- fast at Denny's. He was a life- long member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stendal. He is survived by two daughters and two sons-in- law, Lori (Randy) Cook, of Evansville, and Janet (Brad) Tassell, of Bowling Green, Ky.; one brother, Maurice Hagemeyer, of Stendal; and four granddaughters, Ash- ley Cook, Aubrie Cook, Alli- son Cook and Darby Tassell. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dee Ann Hage- meyer, who passed away on November 4, 2012; his par- ents; and one brother, The- odore Hagemeyer. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. EST on Wednes- day, February 13, 2019, at St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Stendal, with Pastor Ed Wicks officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter's Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation was from 2-8 p.m. EST on Tuesday at the Nass & Son Funeral Home in Huntingburg; and will be from 10 a.m. EST until ser- vice time on Wednesday at the church. YVONNE OWENS THOMAS Mrs. Yvonne Owens Thomas, 91, of Stendal, passed away Friday eve- ning, January 18, 2019, at Memorial Hospital in Jas- per. She was born August 21, 1927, in Braholm, W. Va., a daughter of the late Vess and Stella Myrtle Ri- ley Owens. She was of the Christian faith and enjoyed reading her Bible, doing puzzles, sewing and spending time with her family. She is survived by six sons, Buford (Betty) Thom- as and Tony (Charlene) Thomas, all of Winslow, Ruford (Debbie) Thomas, Farron (Toni Jo) Thomas and Jeff (Karen) Thomas, all of Vanceburg, Ky., and Sonny (Serena) Thomas, of Morehead, Ky.; one daugh- ter, Starlin (Don) Blount, of Stendal; 21 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchil- dren; four brothers, Forrest Owens, of Grayson, Ky., Jewett Owens and Jimmy Owens, both of Emerson, Ky., and Robert Owens, of Vanceburg, Ky.; and two sis- ters, Jean Back, of Globe, Ky., and Joyce Branham, of Hayden, Ala. She also leaves many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her. In addition to her par- ents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 54 years, Dempsey Thom- as; two sons, Mark Hous- ton Thomas and an infant son; two daughters, Sandra Thomas Dyer and Sophia Ann Thomas; one grand- son, Buford "B.B." Thom- as, Jr.; and two brothers, Charles Owens and Danny Owens. Funeral services were at 11 a.m. Saturday, Janu- ary 26, 2019, at Globe Fu- neral Chapel in Olive Hill, Ky., with Brother Travis Cooper, Sister Jenny-Lynn Copley and Brother Tylier McAdams officiating. Buri- al followed in the Owens Cemetery in Emerson, Ky. Visitation was from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, and after 9 a.m. on Saturday at the fu- neral home. Yvonne's grandsons and great grandsons served as pallbearers. NANCY PEARL CUMMINGS Nancy Pearl Cummings, 69, of Petersburg, passed away on February 8, 2019, at the Timbers of Jasper. She was born June 26, 1949, in Daviess County to Arthur and Gladys "Swain" Gideon. She is survived by her husband, Jason Thom- as, of Petersburg; son, JD Cummings, of Petersburg; daughter, Josie Sturgeon, of Jasper; and six grand- children. The services were at 2 p.m. EST on Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2019, at Harris Funeral Home in Petersburg, with Pastor Eddie Willis officiat- ing. Burial followed at Wal- nut Hills Cemetery in Pe- tersburg. SHARI LATRISHA HAYS Shari LaTrisha Hays, 71, of Petersburg, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at St. Vincent Hospi- tal in Evansville. She was born in Oakland City on June 27, 1947, to Alice Marguerite ( Webb) Kinman and Hulett (Hoot) Kinman. She married Vance Hays on October 31, 1973. She was a member of the Pe- tersburg Main Street Pres- byterian Church, where she served as an elder. She was a graduate of Winslow High School and Oakland City University, and was an elementary school teacher, an assessor for Toyota, sub- stitute teacher, bookstore manager at Pike Central High School, pre-school teacher and Petersburg's mayor's assistant. She is survived by her husband, Vance Hays; a son, Matthew (Melissa) Hays; and a daughter, Dar- cee Hays (Michael) Wood- land; granddaughters, Mackenzie Woodland, Zo- ey Hays and Brynn Hays; grandson, Samuel Hays; a sister, Gale Wick; and brothers, Michael Kin- man, Chris Kinman and John Kinman. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Dave Kinman and Terry Kinman. The funeral service was at 10 a.m. EST on Tues- day, February 12, 2019, at Main Street Presbyterian Church in Petersburg. THELMA JEAN (BARTELT) OXLEY Thelma Jean (Bartelt) Oxley, 82, of Stendal, passed away on February 7, 2019. On the evening of January 8, 1937, a doctor was called from a charity donkey bas- ketball game in Holland to deliver a baby girl at the Mel- vin and Mabel Bartelt home. The baby was named Thel- ma Jean and she began an 82-year journey that ended on February 7, 2019, at Sce- nic Hills Care Center in Fer- dinand, Indiana. The early years of the journey were spent on a dairy farm, attending Hol- land School, and being an active member of Zoar Meth- odist Church. She graduated from Holland High School in 1955, having been honored to be the basketball home- coming queen in her senior year. Following graduation, she was employed at Hol- land Distributors, the local advertising and promotions business. When the Town of Holland celebrated its cen- tennial in August 1959, she was one of the centennial queen candidates. The fol- lowing week, on August 29, 1959, on a very hot and hu- mid Saturday evening, she married Lester Oxley. For the next 59 years, she de- voted her life to her hus- band and children. Recent- ly, as her health declined, she was lovingly cared for by her husband. In 1964, they moved to their new house on the Ox- ley farm in Stendal. It was in this house that she and Lester raised their daugh- ter and four sons. Over the years, she took pleasure in watching her children's and grandchildren's success in local schools and college. She enjoyed working at Pike Central's school cafete- ria and interacting with the students. They enjoyed trav- eling to see their children and grandchildren, hosting gatherings with family and friends, and showering the family with Christmas gifts. She joined St. Peter's Lu- theran Church in Stendal af- ter her marriage, sang in the choir, was active in women's activities, and participated in the annual Fourth of Ju- ly picnic at the church. Her life's journey was filled with family, friends and church. She is survived by her husband, Lester R. Oxley, of Stendal; one daughter, Sandra (Mark) Robertson, of New Palestine; four sons, Lonnie (Michelle) Oxley, of Versailles, Ky., Lance (Su- san) Oxley, of New Pales- tine, Leslie (Sara) Oxley, of Orlando, Fla., and Lyle (Christine) Oxley, of New- burgh; one brother, Wil- liam (Kathy) Bartelt, of Newburgh; nine grandchil- dren; and two great-grand- BARBAR A JANE WILLS Barbara Jane Wills, 75, of Winslow, entered rest on Tuesday Feb 5, 2019, at Dea- coness Gateway Hospital in Newburgh. She was born on Jan. 29, 1944, in Oakland City, to Harold and Esther (Minn- is) Turnbloom. She had worked at Old Ben 1 Coal mine for 22 years. She was a member of U.M.W.A and Local 5179, Pe- tersburg V.F.W. Post #1147 and Petersburg Moose Lodge. She is survived by her children, Thomas Keith Al- very and Jason Willis, both of Petersburg, Tina Gayhart, of Winslow, Helen Wood, of Festus, Mo., and Don- na Fuccio, of Fort Worth, Texas; 15 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sis- ters, Shirley Whitted and Christina Bennett, both of Princeton, Mary Wilkin- son, of Terre Haute, and Sherry Goetze, of Stillwa- ter, Minn., brothers, Bernie Turnbloom, of Dayton, Ohio, and Pat Turnbloom, of San Diego, Calif. She was preceded in death by her parents; a sis- ter, Elaine Chapman; her husband, Art Willis; and a granddaughter. TR ACY A. HOUCHINS Tracy A. Houchins, 57, of Oakland City, entered rest on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Deaconess Hospital in New- burgh. He was born on Feb. 23, 1961, in Oakland City. He worked at Shell, where he met a lot of good people, right out of high school and stayed there for 19 years. Then he took a job for Oak- land City Water Dept. and finished his working career at Toyota from 2002-2014. He was a member of Oakland City Golf Club. He loved playing golf and rid- ing Harleys. Playing bas- ketball in the man cave with the grandkids was his fa- vorite thing to do. He dear- ly loved being with family and friends, and never met a stranger he didn't talk to. He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Jeanette (Co- chrane) Houchins; moth- er and stepfather, Barbara (Don) Lindauer, of Buck- skin; sons, Brett (Autumn) Houchins, of Huntingburg, and Jordan Houchins, of Boston, Mass.; daughters, Erica Kueber, of Peters- burg, and Jade (Ben Klai- ber) Houchins, of Hamil- ton, Ohio; step-sons, Josh- ua Hedges and Kolten (Em- ily) Hedges, of Evansville; three grandchildren; broth- er, Brian (Amie) Houchins, of Somerville; sister-in-law, Jennifer (Ron) Rhoderick, of Oakland City; brother- in-law, Kenny (Nancy) Co- chrane, of Evansville; and several nieces and neph- ews. Beyer, Sr., 89, of Indianapolis, formerly of Petersburg, passed away at Madison Healthcare on Jan- uary 2, 2019. He was born on January 6, 1930, in Shelby Coun- ty, to Leo F. and Justina O. Beyer (Ruhlman). He mar- ried Dora Jean Beyer in Wa- terloo, Ill., and they resid- ed for many years in Peters- burg. He graduated from Wal- dron H.S. in 1948 and joined the U.S. Army. He served his country with distinction and retired from the U.S. Army as a Lt. Colonel. He worked stateside for the Se- lective Service System and later for the Indiana Bu- reau of Motor Vehicles. He loved to dance and garden. He was a self-proclaimed mole eradicator and kept his neighbors' yards free of those pesky critters. He en- joyed listening to old coun- try music and watching the Indiana Pacers. He is survived by his sis- ter, Rita Teal; three sons and four daughters, William L. Beyer, Jr., Nancy (Glenn) Koehring, Jill (Bill) Frye, Carol Beyer, Jeff (Erin) Beyer, Greg (Donna) Beyer and Amy ( Joe) Click; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Dora Jean; and eight brothers and sisters. A private graveside ser- vice took place at 1 p.m. on Saturday, February 9, 2019, at the Walnut Hill Cemetery in Petersburg. To my V alentine A Valentine to Heaven DONALD WAYNE FRITZ Donald (Don) Wayne Fritz, 93, of Princeton, passed peacefully with his son and daughter-in-law at his side on February 8, 2019, at the home of Rev Byron Fritz in Sheridan. He was born Feb. 28, 1925, in Oakland City, to Vir- gil and Elma (Corn) Fritz. He graduated from Spur- geon High School in 1946 after finishing his tour of duty. He served in the Na- vy during W WII from 1943 to 1946. He farmed and worked in the coal industry until his retirement from Lynnville Mine. He was a 71-year member of Unit- ed Mine Workers of Amer- ica Local 9926. He was past Treasury and Grand Mar- shal of the Labor Day Asso- ciation. He was a past mem- ber of the Lynnville Masonic Lodge, the Spurgeon United Method Church and a mem- ber of the Mackey Nazarene Church, where he donated many hours of work on the building of the Church. He married Ester Kohlmeier in 1947. A fter her passing in 1980, he married Shirley Bernard. He is survived by Shirley; three sons, Gary (Debbie), Michael (Carolyn) and By- ron (Carol); a stepdaugh- ter, Debra (Roger) Deters; two sisters, Patty Clem and Eva Jewel Baumgardner; six grandchildren; a step-grand- son; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and neph- ews. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Ester; 12 brothers and sisters; and one step-grand- daughter. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. CST on Friday, February 15, 2019, at the Corn-Colvin Funeral Home, 323 N. Main St., Oakland City, with Rev. Bill Reed of- ficiating. Burial will follow at the Spurgeon Cemetery next to the United Method- ist Church in Spurgeon.
