He is president of NAIMA, which develops and empowers Mexicans in North America through educational, social and economic initiatives, and he founded the Necahual Foundation to help children in vulnerable situations. JUAN ANDRADE Jr., CEO Entity: United States Hispanic Leadership Institute Website: www.USHLI.org Juan Andrade Jr., is the most highly decorated Latino leader in the nation and has been recognized fi ve times as one of the Most Infl uential Hispanics in America. He is only the fourth Latino in history to be honored by both the government of the United States and the government of Mexico. In 2001, he received the Presidential Citizens Medal from President Bill Clinton for "the performance of exemplary deeds of service for the nation" and "for extraordinary accomplishments in promoting civic participation and leadership development." In 2011 he received the National Ohtli Award, the highest honor presented by the people and government of Mexico for distinguished service to the Mexican and Mexican American community in the United States. He has earned more degrees than any leader of a major national organization, including a bachelor's, a master's in education, a specialist in education, a doctorate in education and a post-doctorate master's degree. He also has fi ve honorary doctorates and has been recognized as a distinguished alumnus by Howard Payne University, Northern Illinois University, and Loyola University Chicago. After 18 years in farm work, Mr. Andrade rose to become a venerated community leader, co-founding USHLI, which he leads today, working to maximize the awareness, engagement and participation of Latinos in civic life. USHLI has registered 2.2 million voters, published 425 studies on Latino demographics, trained over 500,000 present/future leaders, awarded over $1.3 million in scholarships and internships, and sponsors the largest Latino leadership conference in the nation. She currently leads the Gads Hill Center, a community based organization founded in 1898 that creates opportunities for children and their families to build better lives through education, access to resources, and community engagement. She has more than 20 years of experience in nonprofi t management, leading organizations through start-up, turnaround, and expansion, always fueled by her passion for social justice. García is the former executive director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights and founding executive director of the Latino Policy Forum. She also worked as director of capacity building and juvenile justice policy at the National Council of La Raza. Ms. Garcia came to the United States in the early 1980s fl eeing the war in Guatemala. After her arrival, she founded Casa Guatemala to assist newly arriving refugees and later co-founded Women for Guatemala, an organization dedicated to building solidarity among women in the U.S. with emerging women's organizations in Guatemala. As a member of the Peace and Justice Committee, she engaged the international community in monitoring and upholding human rights in Guatemala by advocating at the United Nations General Assembly and Committees during the 1980s. Maricela has served on various boards and councils including the National Immigration Forum, the National Network for Immigrant and Refugee Rights, Northwestern University Human Rights Center, the Chicago Community Renewal Society, Illinois Partners for Human Services, and Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago.
