Wheth- er stationed on a stateside base, an aircraft carrier, or near the front lines, these faith- ful servants share love, hope and spiritual direction to the men and women who pro- tect and defend the United States. We have seen pictures of services being held in the hot desert sands and troops be- ing baptized in innovative ways. Many of our troops facing life and death every day know the dangers and want to grow in their faith. In installations in many countries our chaplains are there to serve and minister. Regardless of their denominational back- ground chaplains serve people of all faiths. In the midst of the violence of war many peo- ple with little faith or no faith seek out the chaplain. This is an opportunity to share the love of Christ and explain the simple Gos- pel message. It has often been said, "There are no atheists in fox holes." When life becomes uncertain most people want something that is cer- tain and eternal. The chaplains need prayer and en- couragement. The churches at home should honor these special people and pray for them often. They too are away from home and family and need to know we care. Churches should adopt a chaplain and have people write them and pray regularly for them. My prayer is that God will bless and protect our military chaplains and use them to faithfully minis- ter to our troops wherever they maybe. There was once a young man who stood in the shadow of a great leader. When that leader passed away, it fell to his young ap- prentice to pick up the reins of leadership. As he did so, he faced his circumstances with a certain amount of understandable doubts and fears. Then someone encouraged him, telling him to be strong and exhibit cour- age, because God would enable him. The leader was Moses, his apprentice was Josh- ua, and the encourager was the Lord Him- self ( Josh. 1:1-9). God likewise challenges believers in the dispensation of grace to be strong. Paul told grace believers to "…quit you [or act man- ly] like men, be strong" (1 Cor. 16:13) and to "…be strong in the Lord, and in the pow- er of His might" (Eph. 6:10). We must not cower in fear nor surrender to Satan who is waging spiritual warfare against us. We must be strong! We can do so by remembering God's pow- er is available to us. Paul prayed the saints would comprehend "…the exceeding great- ness of His power [is available] to us-ward who believe" (Eph. 1:19). The Lord offers us His power, and wants us to have it. Believe it! God's power is accessed "by His Spirit in the inner man" (Eph. 3:16). We can never tri- umph over Satan in our own strength, but we can when we allow God's power to flow in our lives in our inner man. Nourish your inner "new man" in Christ! Our inner man is empowered by equip- ping ourselves with "the whole armour of God" (Eph. 6:11). This can be summarized by choosing to have a consistent daily walk in truthfulness and righteous behavior as our standard (v. 14), being always prepared to give the gospel (v. 15), protecting our minds through faith in God's Word (v. 16), living in the confidence of our eternal vic- tory (v. 17a), using the Scriptures to slice through Satan's lies (v. 17b), and being con- stant in prayer (v. 18). Be vigilant in cloth- ing yourself with apparel that enables you to have victory in your daily life! Paul's admonition is "…and having done all to stand, stand therefore…" (Eph. 6:13- 14). Have you done all you need to do to stand victorious today? Are you remember- ing God's power is available to you? Have you been spiritually strengthening your inner man? Will you consistently equip your soul with the whole armour of God? Be strong believer! God will enable you if you look to Him for His power to overcome whatever you face today. Another week has passed by and again it has been busy with Christmas in the Park and finishing up erecting the displays. It is fun to work with a group of people who en- joy doing something for others. A couple of times I have helped unload the food pan- try truck at Somebody's Place with anoth- er great group. Some would say that it isn't right to feel a twinge of pride for being able to help others, but I have always said that the feel-good feeling you get is God's way of saying thanks and please keep it up. Last week I mentioned being discouraged as a pastor and how a pastor hurts when the church he is ministering at is struggling. Of- ten times problems arise that can be dealt with but at other times things come up that bother some of the congregation and rath- er than trying to work them out they move on only to find a similar bothersome situa- tions in the new congregation. In my time as a minister I have found that while it is sometimes upsetting being truthful with one's feelings can be dealt with in the Love Continued on page 2 See R AMBLINGS on 3 community Dinner Petersburg Nazarene Church 118 W Pike Ave., Petersburg • 812-354-8851 November 19 • 4:30pm Come for a full anksgiving meal with turkey, ham, and all the trimmings. When Jesus gave the mod- el prayer to the disciples, He said "Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven" (Matthew 6:10). He also said "Seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you" (verse 33). When we earnestly seek God and His kingdom, we find it and enjoy Kingdom benefits. So much in life is anything but consistent. In fact, the only thing that is known that is eternally consistent is the kingdom of God. And there's only one way into that King- dom, too. "I am the door," Jesus said ( John 10 :9). Jeremiah 29:11 says "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a fu- ture." What a great prom- ise. God has great plans for each and every one of our lives, no matter our current circumstances. He has laid out a wonderful, prosperous future and a heavenly home free of all of our pain, suffer- ing and trials. Sunday night, the three smaller groups joined to- gether to take a quiz and learn about what each of our love languages are. We dis- covered our own language, as well as those of our spous- es, children and our church family. We learned the best tools and directions to take in order to be a blessing to each other and to love each other well. We encourage ev- eryone to take this quiz to see if you are showing each other love in the best way that they receive it. On Saturday, the youth group, The God Squad, took 30 youth and chaperones to Indianapolis to distribute warm clothing, snacks, per- sonal hygiene supplies and Bibles to the homeless in the downtown area.
