Pike County Sheriff's Deputy Mike Willis stopped a vehicle at approximately 5:30 p.m. for going left of center and disregarding a stop sign at Jasper Rd. and Collins St. in Winslow. Petersburg Officer Scott Wright heard about the stop while on his way home and decided to assist Deputy Willis, according to Depu- ty Paul Collier, who assist- ed with a search of the vehi- cle after obtaining consent from Folsom. Willis located a sweat- shirt with a green leafy sub- stance in a small baggie in- side a pocket, which Collier recognized as marijuana. He reported that after sev- eral requests concerning ownership, Folsom stated it was his. Folsom was then placed in handcuffs, which were double locked for his safety. Cherry arrested on OVWI, mischief charges By Andy Heuring An accident led to the ar- rest of a Huntingburg man for drunken driving and criminal mischief early Sat- urday morning. Chaz C. Cherry, 26, of 304 E. Third St., Huntingburg, was arrested by Pike Coun- ty Deputy Sheriff Paul Col- lier. Deputy Collier said he was notified by central dis- patch of an accident at High- way 257 and CR 775 E. at about 1:05 a.m. When he arrived at the scene, Depu- ty Jason McKinney was al- ready there. McKinney told Deputy Collier when he arrived he found Cherry in the driv- er's seat and while talking to him, he could smell the odor of alcohol. Cherry failed field so- briety tests. He refused a chemical test. Deputy Collier said Cher- ry kept falling during the so- briety tests and once while Collier had ahold of his arm while walking Cherry to his patrol car. While dealing with Cher- ry, Deputy Collier said of- ficers were told by central dispatch that Cherry had been at Winter Redecker's residence in Stendal earlier and broken her door. When police talked with Redecker, she told them Cherry had been invited over to drink and hangout, but during the night, they got into a fight and he was told to leave. He went out- side to smoke, she locked the door and he broke the door and left. He was taken to the Pike County Jail, where he was preliminarily charged with operating a vehicle while in- toxicated and criminal mis- chief.
