But did you know the benefits can go well be- yond achieving basic R-val- ue requirements? Quality in- sulation can provide a num- ber of added benefits that contributes to the comfort, safety and efficiency of a home, including: Sound absorbency — Life is loud, but the right choice of insulation can help re- duce noise transfer through- out your home. Insulating between floors and interi- or walls can help create a peaceful sanctuary in areas of your home, even when life is chaotic. A safe indoor environment — Good indoor air quality goes a long way toward en- suring personal comfort. Choosing insulation that is water repellant and resis- tant to mold, mildew, fungi, bacterial growth and rot can help to prevent common is- sues behind your walls that may pose serious health and safety concerns and lead to costly repairs. Look to prod- ucts that will not off-gas or emit harmful VOCs (volatile organic compounds). Savings A properly insulated building will be more ener- gy efficient, a benefit that will continue to provide re- turn on investment long af- ter the insulation install is complete. The result is re- duced heating and cooling costs, less stress on your furnace and air condition- er (potentially leading to a longer equipment lifespan) and, at the end of day, more money in your pocket. Fire-resistance Certain insulations, par- ticularly stone wool insula- tion products such as Roxul Comfortbatt and Safe 'n' Sound, can help buy valu- able minutes in the event of a fire, withstanding temper- atures of up to 1,177˚C. Non- combustible, this insulation exceeds the limits of most other insulating materials, and it won't produce smoke or encourage the spread of flames. Performance It's important to remem- ber that not all insulations are created equal. Some in- sulations can sag or contract over time, leaving gaps that can let outdoor air in and conditioned air out. Choos- ing insulation that is dimen- sionally stable, durable and that offers long-term ther- mal performance will en- sure your home can stand up in even the most chal- lenging conditions. Stone wool products are proven to perform in even the most extreme conditions, mak- ing them ideal for use in the United States. Ultimately, you can pur- chase insulation as many do, based on basic R-values. But when it comes to qual- ity, comfort, safety and ef- ficiency, is basic really the best choice? Quality counts when it comes to all build- ing materials. Always look for products that will deliv- er benefits well beyond the status quo. BENEFITS of good insulation Spring and summer may be the sea- sons most often associated with land- scaping and lawn care, but tending to lawns and gardens is a year-round job. If lawn and garden responsibili- ties dip considerably in winter, then fall is the last significant chance be- fore the new year that homeowners will have to address the landscaping around their homes. Fall lawn care differs from spring and summer lawn care, even if the warm temperatures of summer lin- ger into autumn. Homeowners who want their lawns to thrive year-round can take advantage of the welcoming weather of fall to address any existing or potential issues. • Keep mowing, but adjust how you mow. It's important that home- owners continue to mow their lawns so long as grass is growing. But as fall transitions into winter, lower the blades so the grass is cut short- er while remaining mindful that no blade of grass should ever be trimmed by more than one-third. Lowering the blades will allow more sunlight to reach the grass in the months ahead. • Remove leaves as they fall. Much like apple-picking and foliage, raking leaves is synonymous with fall. Some homeowners may wait to pick up a rake until all of the trees on their properties are bare. However, allow- ing fallen leaves to sit on the ground for extended periods of time can have an adverse effect on grass. Leaves left to sit on the lawn may ultimately suf- focate the grass by forming an impen- etrable wall that deprives the lawn of LAWN CARE TIPS Huge Close out ON ALL DAILY'S FURNITURE 208 E.
