Teens today are look- ing for real solutions and reality in Chris- tianity. They are tired and weary with the fluff and lack of commitment they observe in many of the new worship styles. They are searching for the real Jesus and life chang- ing faith. This new generation, who has dis- covered the real Jesus, may bring a spiritual revitalization to our culture and the world- liness and lack of commitment they find in many churches. This month millions gathered around the flagpole on school campuses to pray for their teachers and fellow students. On a sec- ular university campus 80 % will drop out of church after the first year. One in four girls on campus, after one year, will leave with a sexually transmitted disease. Move up the age a little and you will find the millen- nials feel lost, lonely and troubled about their future. In every heart, young and old, there is a desire to know God. No amount of new things and new ways will satisfy this inner longing for God. Amidst the noise and clam- or for new ways, only a personal relationship with Christ and a walk in the Bible will give true peace. It is certainly evident that we are living in uncertain economic times. At such times, certain industries fare better than others. For instance, there will always be a need for people to work in the food industry, for peo- ple will always need to eat. There will also always be a need for health care workers, since people will also continue to get sick and need health care. It is equally evident that we are living in uncertain spiritual times. At such times, there will always be a need for Christians who are willing to work to bring the gospel to the lost. There will always be "certain" among the lost who will actively seek salva- tion (Luke 18:18), but "certain" others will trust in themselves that they are righteous (Luke 18:9), so God's people will need to reach out to them. It is also certain that some will continue to oppose Paul's gospel, "certain" of them opposing it on philosophical grounds (Acts 17:18), "certain" others because they are set in their ways and so naturally resist the new truth that Paul set forth (Acts 15:1). Who will step up to meet these chal- lenges? In Paul's day, "a certain disciple… named Timotheus" answered the call (Acts 16:1). How about you, man of God? Why not consider enrolling in our Berean Bible In- stitute, "that thou mightest know the cer- tainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed" (Luke 1:4). Then go out and "preach the word" and "do the work of an evangelist" as the Lord would have you do (II Tim. 4:1-5). When Paul preached in Athens, "certain men clave unto him" (Acts 17:34), just as grace believers have today. But just as "a certain young man named Eutychus" fell asleep when "Paul was long preaching" (Acts 20 :9), many long-time grace believers have fallen asleep under the ministry of Pau- line teaching. If you fear that describes you, why not wake up and follow the example of "a certain man…named Justus" (Acts 18:7) and "a certain woman named Lydia" (Acts 16:14) who opened their homes to the min- istry of Pauline truth and helped establish grace churches in their respective cities. Many Christians are at a complete loss as to knowing what to do in these uncer- tain spiritual times, but that doesn't apply to those who know the certainty of Paul's gospel. We have the answer to the religious confusion all about us! If you're not part of the movement that is bringing the solution to these poor confused people, you're part of the problem. One thing is sure. "We brought nothing into this world, and it is certain we can car- ry nothing out" (I Tim. 6:7). With that in mind, why not begin today to live with eter- nity in view? Hey thought I'd smarten up a bit and write down ideas for my article throughout the week. I wrote down ; hurricane, practice makes perfect and a little about David.and King Saul. Sounded good and practical but you still have to put it on paper. So we will do our best to put our thoughts in words. First was the hurricane and the terrible destruction in the Houston area. Harvey hit there with a brutal storm that didn't want to end. I was fortunate enough to drive down what is called " refinery row" about six years or so ago and see the impressive machinery along the highway. To think of all of them un- der water seems totally impossible, but we saw it on television. Try to put 50 inches of rain in a low area and imagine the flooding. As bad as we hate the rise in gas prices, we have not one thing to complain about compared to the loss of prop- erty and lives those folks have experienced. Thank God for all the volunteers who have used their boats to evacuate those who were stranded by the flood waters. There are ma- ny people taking donations of food, water and paper goods to send to them. I've heard that cash is good also, but be warned to watch who you give your cash to because there are always going to be people who take advantage of oth- ers hardships for their own gain. A fter seeing their need of water and food on the television it seems that material goods might offer more support. Whatever we can do will help, especially your prayers. It's been several years since I got out my golf clubs and this summer I have been play- ing as often as I can. Seems as though some of my old sloppy game is returning with even an inkling of improvement thanks to friends who have finally been able to penetrate my thick skull with some much needed guidance. It makes no difference what you are doing, practice makes you better at what you do. You may never master what you do but you will Continued on page 2 Winslow G.B. Last week we saw David tell several lies to the priest of the temple in order to protect him- self and the priest. He lied again to get food and a weapon when he saw one of Saul's hench- men at the temple. Telling a lie is not the right thing to do and if David would have only called on God for help he would not have had to lie. Bottom line with David is that with all that he had been through he had not turned from God but he had became less dependant on God and his dedication level had deteriated. David needs to mend his relationship with God be- cause at that time of his life God was his only true ally. God wanted David to turn to Him for his needs. God will not force anyone to pray, but He can make you need to. Think about this the next time you feel like giving up. Well let's consider how we may help Hous- ton area people, practice what we like to do and don't let the world steal our blessings. Until next week hope many blessings come your way. The sign of God's cov- enant with Abraham was physical circumcision, but there is another circumci- sion needed today, a circum- cision of the heart. God has set His affection on us and asks that we humbly and lov- ingly come to Him and ac- cept our undeserved inheri- tance from Him. "This is my covenant with you and your descen- dants after you, the cove- nant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be cir- cumcised" (Genesis 17:10).
