"Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your understanding" (Proverbs 3:5). There will always be se- crets and motives of God that lie beyond our grasp. God knows everything we don't. Only in Heaven will we understand God's ways more fully. As Paul said, "Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known" (I Corin- thians 13:12). Based upon what we do know about God's char- acter demonstrated su- premely on the Cross, we can trust that God is doing what is best for us. God says in His Word, "I know the plans I have for you— plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future" ( Jeremiah 29:11). Always give your- selves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain. (1 Cor- inthians 15:58) We all have a gift to use for the Lord. Standing firm in your faith and gift while using it for the Lord can sometimes be hard to do. There are distrac- tions and barriers in this life that sometimes make this seem impossible. But as children of God, we can rest assured that if we can push through in our labor for the Lord, no matter how hard the task may seem, and give ourselves fully to this task, our work will not be in vain. God always has a plan and all we have to do is give ourselves ful- ly to him and know that if we do what is asked of us, God will bless us and those in our lives. God loves you. Stand firm in your labor, and have faith that when it is for the Lord, it is never in vain. Not Welcome A young nobleman had been absent for such a long time from his extensive es- tate and numerous ten- ants that he was a stranger to them. Having returned home, he was out hunt- ing and wandered from his party. Lost and thorough- ly drenched by the rain, he sought shelter and relief in the cottages of some of his tenants, but they did not rec- ognize him as the lord of the manor and shut their doors in his face. Knocking at the cottage of a poor widow, he heard the invitation, "Come in, thou blessed of the Lord." She gave him a suit of dry, though coarse, clothing and spread before him the best food she could provide. He went away promising to re- turn for his own clothes. The next day he appeared with his retinue and stopped before the poor widow's door. She discovered in the young lord her unknown guest. He thanked her for her kindness shown to a stranger. She gave as a rea- son for her hospitality the fact that her own boy was away at sea and might be in need of shelter. When Christ came, He was surrounded by the world He had made. Yet Christ had nowhere to lay His head, for "He came then our speaking would be more Christ like. Matthew 12:36 says that we will give an account for every idle word.
