B-6 Sports Wednesday, September 6, 2017 The Press-Dispatch Charger netters win two of three matches The Pike Central High School boys' tennis team dropped a 5 -0 loss at Washington on Tues- day, Aug. 29, before post- ing back-to-back home- court victories – a 5 -0 win over South Spencer on Wednesday, Aug. 30, and a 3-2 win over Wood Memorial on Thursday, Aug. 31. Against Washington: • At No. 1 singles, Char- gers senior Jackson Keep- es lost to Hatchets junior John Rook 6 -4, 6 -4. • At No. 2 singles, Char- gers senior Carlos Stew- art lost to Hatchets senior Caleb Arthur 7-5, 6 -0. • At No. 3 singles, Char- gers freshman Ethan Huck lost to Hatchets freshman Zach Gray. • At No. 1 doubles, the Chargers' team of junior Kyle Williams and soph- omore Quinton Sorgius lost to the Hatchets' duo of senior Kaleb Knepp and Braden Kixmiller 6 -4, 6 -1. • At No. 2 doubles, Chargers sophomores An- drew Claridge and Colin Craig lost to the Hatchets' duo of sophomore Drake Harmon and Jacob Ma- son. In junior varsity singles matches, sophomore Dal- ton Williams lost 8 -0 and 8 -2, and freshman Ethan Gorby lost 8 -1 and 5 -0. Against South Spencer: • At No. 1 singles, Char- gers senior Jackson Keep- es defeated the Rebels' Mason Schmitt 6 -0, 6 -0. • At No. 2 singles, Char- gers senior Carlos Stew- art defeated the Rebels' David Garcia 6 -0, 6 -0. • At No. 3 singles, Char- gers freshman Ethan Huck defeated the Reb- els' David Luttrell 6 -0, 6 -0. • At No. 1 doubles, the Chargers' team of junior Kyle Williams and soph- omore Quinton Sorgius defeated the Rebels' Ty- ler Mallory and Zeke Don- nelly 6 -0, 6 -1. • At No. 2 doubles, Chargers sophomores An- drew Claridge and Colin Craig won by forfeit. Against Wood Memo- rial: • At No. 1 singles, Char- gers senior Jackson Keep- es defeated Trojans senior Walker Nurrenbern 6 -1, 6 - 1. • At No. 2 singles, Char- gers senior Carlos Stew- art defeated Trojans junior Paxton Bartley 6 -1, 6 -3. • At No. 3 singles, Char- gers freshman Ethan Huck lost to Trojans junior Jalen Doerner 6 -3, 7-6. • At No. 1 doubles, the Chargers' team of junior Kyle Williams and sopho- more Quinton Sorgius lost to Trojans seniors Lathan Falls and Trent Holder 6 - 3, 1-6, 6 -4. • At No. 2 doubles, Chargers sophomores An- drew Claridge and Colin Craig defeated Trojans ju- niors Isaiah Norrick and Brayden Bell 6 -1, 6 -3. In junior varsity sin- gles matches, Chargers sophomore Dalton Wil- liams won 6 -0 and Char- gers freshman Ethan Gor- by won 6 -5. In a junior var- sity doubles match, Gorby and Williams lost 6 -5. Pike Central (3-8 over- all, 1-3 in the Pocket Ath- letic Conference) will play at Southridge on Wednes- day, Sept. 6, and at Tell City on Thursday, Sept. 7, before returning home to host Forest Park at 5 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 11.
