Luff supplied a fist full of pens for those wanting a memen- to from the proceedings. Both Rhodes and Houtsch considered the guidance and assistance provided by Ziebarth and Grace Col- lege to be top flight and the "shepherd" and partner the school needed. The school made speedy progress in breaking ground and open- ing, especially considering the fact the school's first ap- plication for a charter school was turned down. By Andy Heuring A Petersburg man was arrested after an Illinois fa- ther called police and re- ported the man had sent his 15 -year-old daughter a nude picture of himself and asked her for sex. Derek Brothers, 41, of 900 S. Cherry St., Petersburg, was arrested on a charge of child solicitation by Peters- burg Police Sgt. Chad Mc- Clellan. McClellan said he was contacted by an Illinois fa- ther saying Brothers had sent his daughter nude pic- tures. McClellan said the 15 -year-old girl had meant to delete a friend request on Facebook, but accidentally friended Brothers. He later commented on a photo she had posted and her sister asked her why a middle aged guy was commenting on her posts, so she unfriend- ed him. But Brothers then began sending her messag- es, including one that was a nude picture of himself and made a statement ask- ing her if she wanted to have sex with him. McClellan said the girl told her father, who then sent a message to Brothers on the girl's account asking Broth- ers if he knew she was only 15 years old. Brothers' response was "cool," then he resent the picture of himself and repeat- ed the request for sex. The father then replied that he was the girl's father. McClellan said Brothers then "promptly deleted his account." McClellan said he filed for a search warrant to get the Facebook records in May and received the records on August 26. He scheduled an interview with Brothers on August 30. McClellan's re- port states Brothers admit- ted he had sent the picture of himself to the 15 -year-old girl. Following the interview, Brothers was taken into cus- tody on a child solicitation charge. Brothers arrested for child solicitation By Andy Heuring A rural Pike County man was arrested late Saturday night after he was accused of threatening a wedding party and then firing a shot- gun at the building later. Douglas F. Richter, 67, of 1340 N. CR 825 W., Hazle- ton, was arrested by Sher- iff's Sgt. Dallas Killian. Sgt. Killian said the Pike County 911 operators re- ceived a call from the A za- lea Path saying a neighbor, who was possibly intoxicat- ed, came over and was yell- ing, disrupting the party. A f- ter owners were able to get the man to leave, they heard gunshots from across the lake and pellets hitting their building. Sgt. Killian, Deputy Buck Seger and State Trooper C.J. Boeckman responded. When they arrived, they were stopped by workers of the A zalea Path telling them Richter had been there yell- ing about the loud music at the wedding reception. Killian said he went to Richter's residence and talked with Richter and his wife. Killian said when he asked them who shot the gun, Barbara Richter said no one shot a gun, but Douglas said he had. They said they had called the sheriff's de- partment to complain about the music, but no one had re- sponded. Killian said the depart- ment had been working two accidents and were on a pri- ority basis. Richter, according to Killian's report, said he fired the shotgun because he was trying to get them to turn down the music. He also admitted he had gone to the A zalea Path and complained and told them "Things would get ugly if they did not turn down the music." Killian said he took pho- tos of empty shotgun hulls in the driveway. He took Richter into cus- tody on a preliminary charge of intimidation with a dead- ly weapon. According to Killian's re- port, two witnesses said Richter threatened to shoot the party DJ's speakers if they didn't turn down the music. Killian said the 911 dispatchers said they could hear the shots while talking to the first caller. Richter arrested for firing shotgun at building during wedding reception Mike Houtsch signed the Otwell Miller Academy declaration brought by Grace College Charter School Director Tim Ziebarth. Houtsch, Bob Rhodes and Elisabeth Luff signed the document on Thurs- day at the new Otwell Miller Academy school building. Later, it was signed by the board members. James Capozella photo A trial date of Tuesday, December 19 was set for Mick Rowe during a pre-tri- al conference last week in Pike Circuit Court. Rowe has been charged with one count of child mo- lesting and one count of criminal deviate conduct resulting in serious bodily injury. Both are class A fel- onies. Rowe, 49, of Evansville, was arrested on a warrant on Thursday, July 27 by In- diana State Police. A class A felony is punish- able by 20 to 50 years. By James Capozella Two men from northwest Indiana were arrested on I- 69 on September 1 for pos- session of a schedule IV con- trolled substance, obstruc- tion of justice and posses- sion of marijuana under 30 grams. Petersburg Sgt. Chad McClellan was returning from assisting officers on I- 69 when he stopped a blue Chevy truck traveling south- bound on I-69 for crossing into the other lane and run- ning off the roadway two or more times. A fter he initiat- ed a traffic stop and spoke with the driver, he noticed a strong odor of marijuana coming from inside the ve- hicle. A fter initially denying it, the driver, Zachary W. Die- ner, 22, of Reynolds, Ind., said he had some marijua- na and handed the officer a white plastic baggie contain- ing a green leafy substance that later field tested posi- tive for marijuana. When speaking with the passenger in the truck, Al- exander D. Thompson, 22, of Lafayette, Ind., McClel- lan noticed an odor of an alcoholic beverage on his breath, watery eyes and slurring of words. During the course of the investiga- tion, Thompson was unable to produce his identification. McClellan saw that Thomp- son was holding something in his right hand. When Mc- Clellan reached for his hand, Thompson dropped some- thing behind him. When be- ing placed in handcuffs, he pulled away. Deputy Dallas Killian arrived on the scene and Thompson was then placed in handcuffs. During a pat down for weapons, a small blue pill was located in a left front pocket, later identified as Ambien. McClellan found the item dropped from Thompson's hand was a small black folding knife, 1/2 of a blue pill and 11 white pills later identified as Xanex. Thompson was arrested for possession of a sched- ule IV controlled substance and obstruction of justice. Diener was arrested for pos- session of marijuana under 30 grams. Pair arrested for drugs on I69 Trial date set for Mick Rowe
