SPORTS BRIEFS Petersburg Kiwanis Golf Scramble set for September 9 The Petersburg Kiwan- is Golf Scramble will be held on Saturday, Sept. 9, starting at 9 a.m., at the Prides Creek Golf Course. Sign-ups are now being accepted at Prides Creek Golf Course. The cost is $40 per person or $160 for a four-person team. Cash prizes will be awarded to the top three teams. Petersburg Little League to hold election for officers The Petersburg Little League will be having a meeting on Sunday, Sept. 10, for anyone interested in being a league officer for the coming year. Muckerheide's goal came as the result of a goal kick by Matthews that bounced its way down the field to just outside the goalie box, where Muckerheide – with Chargers senior goalie Ty- ler Tormohlen came out of the goal to get the ball – too advantage of the open net. Against South Spencer, ju- nior Kelsey Barrett scored Pike Central's lone goal – off an assist by sophomore Chloe Roy – in a 9 -1 loss to the visiting Lady Rebels. "South Spencer had some super fast runners that kept us on the run," Lady Char- gers head coach James DeCrane said. "The girls passed well and worked hard, but it was a tough con- ference game." Against Boonville, Pike Central was held scoreless in a 5 -0 loss to the host La- dy Pioneers. "We need to put that game behind us and get ready to finish strong for the rest of the season, including sec- tionals," DeCrane said. Lady Charger netters open PAC play with win at Forest Park Senior Brook Nalley and junior Kylie Dawson had a season-high nine kills each as the Pike Central High School volleyball team opened Pocket Athletic Con- ference play with a 25 -21, 6 - 25, 25 -17, 25 -18 win over host Forest Park on Tues- day, Aug. 29. Nalley also had a team- high five ace serves as the Lady Chargers improved to 3-6 overall and 1-0 in the PAC. Juniors Alyssa Jenkins and Taylor Lamey had six and five kills, respectively. Junior Becca Crow led Pike Central with 16 set-assists while seniors Shelbi Pipes and Morgan Whann post- ed five and one, respectively. "We had a very good night passing and connect- ing between hitters and set- ters," Lady Chargers head coach Tonya Walton said. "The third game was a lot more about enthusiasm and communication between the girls and moving our feet to the ball. They really worked at communication, which seemed to help turn them around a little bit in the third set." Whann paced Pike Cen- tral in digs with 16 while junior Peyton Sorgius add- ed 10. Sophomores Alexis Englert and Audrey Keepes had five and three kills, respectively, while sophomore Emma Russell dished out a team-high eight set-assists. In the freshman match, Lily Willis had four kills and three ace serves as Pike Central split with For- est Park 23-25, 25 -23. Addie Johnson added three kills and one ace serve while Kenzie Powell – who had one kills and two aces – dished out a team-high eight set-as- sists. Mallory Hickey, who had three kills, and Johnson led the team in digs with 15 and 14, respectively. Riley Morgan also reached dou- ble figures in digs with 13. Shoals 3, Pike Central 2 Despite a season-high 11 kills by junior Taylor Lamey and a career-high nine kills by junior Alyssa Jenkins, Pike Central dropped a 23- 25, 26 -24, 25 -21, 19 -25, 15 - 6 match at Shoals on Thurs- day, Aug. 31. Senior Brook Nalley add- ed seven kills, three ace serves and a team-high two blocks and junior Kylie Daw- son had eight kills as the La- dy Chargers fell to 3-7.
