The building was next to a church building owned by Three Nails Ministry, located near Martin's Curve off of Highway 61, just north of the Pike-Knox County line. Harrison Township Fire Chief Chad Hanson said the fire is suspicious because there was no electrici- ty hook up to the building and no other source of fire in the building. He said it was being used to store building materials. The fire was reported at 1:07 p.m. and when firemen arrived, the building was fully involved. HARRELL SHOULTZ CELEBRATED 94TH BIRTHDAY WITH FAMILY AND FRIENDS A large group of relatives and friends met May 11 at the Knepp Restaurant east of Washington and celebrat- ed Harrell Shoultz's 94th birthday. Mr. Shoultz has been a life-long resident of Pike County. There were 28 in attendance at the dinner. Submitted by Doyal Shoultz. Birthdays the road and if so, by what authority and do they maintain the road was va- cated by the county. "And do you have proof? " added Commissioner President Brian Davis. Wehr and Hochesang thanked the commissioners for looking into it. The commissioners also voted to request a $10,000 additional appro- priation to pay for computer work to get the courthouse's two servers up and running. Dischinger said the bill so far is about $7,200, but there could be more. They made the request so the county council could take the ap- propriation from the general fund, CEDIT or Refuge Revenue Sharing. In other business, former County Councilmen Kelly Atkins and Nor- man Dillon, who are now both on the Soil and Water Conservation Dis- tricts, asked the commissioners to re- quest a salary ordinance change and raise for the Soil and Water District secretary Erica Burkemper-Fischer. They said she has been working for the Soil and Water District for eight years and is still making about $5,000 less than a first year courthouse deputy. Dillon and Atkins said Burkem- per-Fischer's duties had greatly ex- panded since she started. Dillon said board members went around to oth- er counties and districts to see what they were doing. Burkemper-Fischer instigated those activities and more to the point, other counties and dis- tricts are now coming to Pike County to see what they are accomplishing. They also asked for the title of sec- retary to be changed. "Because I am so much more than a secretary," said Burkemper-Fischer. Commissioner Davis suggest- ed they get the new title, and write up the salary request and return to their next meeting. He also said he thought the change ought to be made when the budgets are being set for 2018. In other business, the commission- ers opened bids for an ambulance chassis that is no longer in use. The two bids were: $2,749.21 by Mac's Ga- rage, of Oakland City, and $2,601 by Trinity Ambulance. Both bids were taken under advisement. Extension Educator Sarah Hop- kins recommended to the commis- sioners Alivia Cummings, a former Miss Pike County, be hired for the part-time job in the Extension Office. She said they had three good appli- cants, but Cummings stood out. The commissioners approved Hopkins' recommendation. The next commissioners' meeting is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Monday, June 5.
