Theme statement: A cen- tral theme in this section is the nature and purpose of Je- sus' authority. Jesus' authori- ty allowed him to act without hindrance. What Jesus taught was new and backed up by his deeds of power. The works of Christ demon- strated his authority in three ways. 1. Christ freed us from self- righteousness. 2.Christ freed us from evil oppression. 3. Christ freed us from pow- erlessness. The Upper Room Devo- tional readings for May 22 through May 28. Leon Pomeroy, Pastor "So Christ himself gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the pastors and teachers, to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become ma- ture, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ" (Ephesians 4:11-13 NIV ). Pastor spoke to us about the mother of Zebe- dee's sons—or Mrs. Zebe- dee. From reading Matthew 20 :20 -23, we always assume that she was being very self- ish in asking for the seats on either side of Jesus. We can look at this from a dif- ferent perspective. She was asking for her sons to be a part of God's plan and want- ed them to be used by God. She loved them very much, so she also knew how im- portant it was for her to fol- low God faithfully herself. May we all be like Mrs. Ze- bedee. Each Wednesday at 7 p.m., there will be a DVD study of the Promised Land. We will be finishing the Ran Vander Lann se- ries "That the World May Know;" with the study en- titled "The Death and Res- urrection of the Messiah." Some meet in the sanctuary at 6:30 p.m. for prayer. Feel free to join us on Wednes- day nights. We will not be hosting a community meal this month. Need a church home? Stop in and visit us. We would love to have you be a part of our church family. David Warren, Pastor Jeannine Smith, Reporter WINSLOW NAZARENE CHURCH 106 W. Our Mission Statement: To Know Christ; To Share Christ and To Live Christ. "Sing praise to the Lord, You saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. Hear, O Lord and have mercy on me; Lord, be my helper. You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have put off my sackcloth and clothed me with glad- ness, to the end that my glo- ry may sing praise to You and not be silent. O Lord my God, I will give thanks to You for- ever" (Psalm 30 :4,5,10 -12). We look forward to see- ing you at all of our servic- es! Everyone is welcome and encouraged to join us as we gather for praise & worship, celebration and study. Fred J. Sunday morning worship service at 10 a.m., with Sun- day school classes at 11 a.m. Have you truly prepared your heart and life for that day when the breath of life is taken from you? There is a heaven to gain and a hell to shun. No one can make that decision for us, it is a person- al choice. The Bible states that Jesus came to give us life and it abundantly. The enemy comes to kill, steal and destroy. Abundant life from Jesus is a good life here and then a good life in heav- en. The enemy will cause confusion, strife, heartache and a not so pleasant life here or the life after. Where is your choice? The main thing is that you have made Jesus the main thing in your life. Have a blessed day and may you be- gin to think. Something good is about to happen, and brother and sister, this could be that day. I believe we are living in a time that some amazing things are about to transpire in the Kingdom of God and for His children. If you do not know Him as Lord and Saviour, invite Him into your life today. Our main focus in life should be for the lost, hurt- ing, helpless and undone. Pray for your president and all government officials, federal, state, county and lo- cal. This is being in agree- ment with God's Word. Re- member those that are sick, in the hospitals, nursing homes, loved ones and your pastor. Take time to read God's Word and pray. Be a friend to someone in need and be a blessing to those around you. What is missing in Ch_ _ ch? Think about it.
