The theme is “Your Place to Connect”. The Patrick Center can be a great place to connect in many different ways. You can connect with old friends and catch up on old times or you can connect by making new friends and beginning new relationships. By participating at the center you can build new skills. These include but are not limited to learning how to use a computer in a beginner’s class, e-mailing friends and family, and searching the web to connect with relatives or do genealogical searches. At the center you can also learn to line dance, make ceramics, play cards, work puzzles, shoot a game of pool on our brand new 9 ft. slate billiards table or play a game of table shuffleboard on our new shuffleboard table. Another very important aspect of connecting at the center is staying healthy and active. That is the main focus of the senior center philosophy in a nutshell. You can keep tabs on your blood pressure, join our in-door walking club and compete with your fellow peers by seeing who can walk the most laps in a month. You can also workout in our exercise room on our new recumbent cycle or try out our new weight machine. We also offer many seminars and classes throughout the year regarding healthy lifestyles. Joining a community is also an excellent way of con- necting at the center and one of the best communities is our volunteer community at the center. I have always said that senior adults are our greatest national resources because of the wealth of knowledge they possess. This knowledge and individual talents can be shared at the center with others through volunteer opportunities. Both recipients and donors benefit from such a relationship. Come and discover your center – come and connect! S.H.O.P. -SENIORS HELPING OTHER PEOPLE What a blessing each one of you are that participate in S.H.O.P., Seniors Helping Other People! This is a program to assist the Crisis Ministry in meeting the needs of people who need food/hygiene item assistance. We sincerely appreciate all that you are doing. If you would like to join in helping with this ongoing project, you just have to bring one item per month to the Center and place it in our blue col- lection container in the front lobby. (PLEASE DO NOT THROW TRASH IN THE CONTAINER) Please place your items gently into the container. If you can’t help one month, that’s fine, just help when you can. In June, you brought in fourteen(14) bags of sugar and in July, eighteen (18) bags of flour along with 2 bottles of Nesquick Chocolate Syrup, and 3 jars of sea kelp were donated. A family with children will get that bottle of syrup and feel like they are special. often. Thank you so much for your generosity and thoughtfulness. I hope we can collect 20—4packs of toilet tissue in September and at least 20 jars of peanut butter. Everyone needs toilet imagine not being able to afford to buy it? Let’s make sure that the Kings It’s a treat they probably don’t get tissue! Can you Mountain Crisis Ministry has some toilet tissue and peanut butter to give out this fall. I know we can count on you! You don’t have to be a senior to help us with this project, everyone is welcome to join us in this effort. Just drop off your donations at the Center on Monday—Friday between 8:00AM—5:00PM. Thank you for helping us with S.H.O.P. so that others can be helped. Together we can make a difference in this community. NEWSLETTER SPONSORSHIP—YOU CAN HELP! It is very costly to print and mail out our monthly newsletters ($645 per month) and we need your help. If you, your business, or a business you frequent might be able to sponsor one of our bi-monthly (once every two months) newsletters or have questions, please call Sharon Eaker at the Senior Center. Sponsorship of the newsletter could be very beneficial to a business. First, you would get an ad (approxi- mately 8 1/2 x 7 1/2) for your business on one of the pages of our newsletter. Your logo and business information could be included in your advertisement (within city guidelines) Also, we would place a copy of your Ad on each of our four bulletin boards for those two months. Our newsletter is delivered to over 1200 different households in the Kings Mountain area and over 1,000 different people came to the Center last year so this benefit could be very valuable. The cost of an ad is $100, and must be paid prior to the printing of the newsletter.
