South Mountains State Park will host the 8th Annual Nature Day on September 25th from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. A variety of programs, exhibits and music will be presented throughout the day. Music is scheduled at the park picnic pavilion from 12:00 to 4:00 p.m. Richard Beard and Sassafras Tea will entertain you with Southern Appalachian music. Tim and Faith Ingle and the “Heartstrings” musicians will follow with sounds of bluegrass gospel music. Michael Fox and his Possum Holler Ole Time String Band will put a smile on your face and music in your heart. The popular Build a Bird House Program will be held at the old park officer. Space is limited to 50 people. Sign up early! Bat houses will also be given away. Pictured here on the painted turf are Kevin Wray (center), Lynn Self (left) and Marc Quick (right). The outstanding designs can be admired at several stadiums in the region. Speciality artists, headed by Kevin Wray, imprints football fi elds throughout our area. Gaffney High School was the fi rst. Now, Crest, Kings Mountain, Burns and Gardner-Webb are all part of Kevin’s creations. When you look at midfi eld and the end zones at these stadiums, the names, mascots and other artwork are all part of his team’s work. Kevin said he enjoys designing the fi elds and the schools sure like what he produces. A true football fi eld artist! –M. A.
