Businesses, too, will be seeking extra help to meet the demands of the holiday season. As legitimate employers begin posting job advertisements, scammers will do the same to try and steal your money and personal information. If you're looking for work this holiday season, follow these tips to avoid falling victim to a scam: • Verify that a job offer is real. Search online for the company's website, phone number, or email address and reach out directly to them to confi rm that the job listing is real. Job applications will ask for sensitive information such as a driver's license, Social Security number, or bank account information, so you need to be sure the offer is legitimate before giving out that information. • Research the company you're interested in. If you're skeptical about a company, check with the Better Business Bureau and the Secretary of State's Offi ce. You can also call our offi ce's Consumer Protection Division to check if the business has any complaints against it. • Never pay money for a job. Scammers often ask for upfront payments to pay for application fees, job training, or other bogus expenses. An honest employer will never ask an applicant for money. If you're required to make upfront payments, it is a scam. • Avoid offers that seem too good to be true. If a job listing advertises signifi cant pay for minimal work, avoid it. Take your time when deciding on a new job opportunity and remember, if something seems too good to be true, it probably is. If you think you may have been a victim of an employment scam, call our offi ce at 877-5-NO-SCAM or fi le a complaint online at https://ncdoj.gov/complaint. R-S Central High School varsity cheerleaders had the opportunity to dance with 400 other cheerleaders from across the Southeast and opened the ACC Championship game in Carolina Panthers Stadium over the weekend. Cheerleaders were (left to right) top row: Skye Lockridge, Jurnee Singleton, Havyn McCurry, Jazzy McKinney, Savannah Hodge, Anslee McDaniel, Kaylie Montcastle, Sophie Pittman and Zoe Hodge, middle row: Mia Pittman, Meg Prevatt, Teagan Bailey and Brynn Walker, front row: Jaileigh Lowrance, Aubrie Whiteside, Ava Francis, Laraya Miller, Natalie Shearer, Mati Bostic and Isabella Dixon. Coaches are Julie Pittman and Pamela Hodge. "Our cheer team works with Varsity Spirit, the organization that partnered with the ACC championship," Pittman said. 'They offer camps, clinics, and competitions, as well as support cheer teams across the southeast. Our team submitted our interest in this opportunity, and had to work to learn and perfect the routine. They traveled to Charlotte and worked with expert choreographers who directed the 400 cheerleaders as part of the whole event." Pittman said all the "cheerleaders have expressed an interest in doing more opportunities and events like this in the future. It really gave them some perspective on all the things that cheerleaders can do." 6 DAY FORECAST RUTHERFORD COUNTY'S RUTHERFORD COUNTY'S For Up To The Minute Rutherford County Weather Go To rutherfordweekly.com 53 34 TUES DEC 19 PARTLY CLOUDY THUR DEC 14 54 28 FRI DEC 15 SAT DEC 16 56 34 SUN DEC 17 54 42 59 36 MON DEC 18 MOSTLY SUNNY SHOWERS PARTLY CLOUDY AM SHOWERS 51 24 SUNNY ©Community First Media Community First Media www.duffi escopier.com www.duffi escopier.com 828-245-5116 828-245-5116 LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED FOR 50 YEARS LOCALLY OWNED AND OPERATED FOR 50 YEARS SUPPLIES EQUIPMENT SERVICE PRINTED MATERIALS 671 Oak St., Forest City, NC 28043 BUY LOCAL • SAVE YOUR HARD EARNED DOLL ARS!
