Bailey swam a 25.36 in the 50 free- style to place second in the event and set a new school record for Pike Cen- tral. The old record was 25.44 held by Natalie Bohnert. "Jillian had her sights set on the 50 freestyle record going into the postseason. She was able to drop time at conference and continued to drop time through Sectionals. It is a great achievement to highlight her swimming career," said Charger Swim Coach Andrew Russell. Bailey also placed fifth individual- ly in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:07.81 and teamed with Xavery Weisman, Addy Russell and Lexi Os- walt in both 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay. Both relays placed fourth in the sectional. "Jillian proved to be a vital compo- nent of our swim team this year, be- ing the only Pike Central swimmer to place in her four events at Section- als," said Russell. Those relay teams did the bulk of scoring for Pike Central. Weis- man along with their two relay fin- ishes, placed 12th in the 200 indi- vidual medley and ninth in the 100 backstroke. Lexi Oswalt added a 15th place in the 200 IM and 16th in the 100 but- terfly to her two relay finishes. Charger diver Ruby Sallee executes a flip during one of her dives. Princeton responded to trail 7-4 with less than three minutes to go in the first. The Lady Tigers netted three unanswered baskets to go up by 10 -7 going into the second. Missed shots and layups and a ten-point Lady Tiger scoring drive led by a pair of threes put the Tigers in the driver's seat, up 20 -7 with just two minutes gone in the second quarter. The Chargers opened the game taking a 5 -0 lead on a trey by Ju- lian Gish, who led all Charger scor- ers with 19, and a bucket by senior Kendric Sorgius, who contributed 12 points. Charger wrestling season ends at regional By Andy Heuring Press-Dispatch Sports sports@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's wrestling season came to an end in the Bloomington South wrestling regional as all four contestants were eliminated. "The Bloomington South Regional is very tough. Our four guys fought hard, but we fell to some very tough competition," said Pike Central Coach John Thompson. Charger senior Corey Goeppner (24-6) at 220 pounds was defeated by pin in the third period of his first round match with Preston Montgom- ery of West Vigo. Montgomery 31-6 finished third in the regional. "It is hard to see Corey's career end. He has been an inspiration to our younger wrestlers and a prime example of a great work ethic and great mental attitude. He will be tru- ly missed," said Thompson. Goep- pner was sectional champion last season at 195 pounds and advanced to the semi-state. Freshman Gage Morton (20 -20) at 120 pounds was eliminated by Sulli- van senior Lane Gilbert (33-3). Gil- bert was the eventual regional cham- pion. Sophomore Paul Thompson at 195 pounds lost a 6 -1 decision to senior Drew Chandler (18 -11) of Blooming- ton South. Thompson finished the year 22-10. Sophomore Hayden Goins (20 -21) at 285 pounds was beaten in the first period by Terre Haute South sopho- more Sean Murphy (32-6). "This can be used as motivation to get back to work and keep improving in all aspects. They got the taste of what it takes to be at this level and have the desire to take it to the next level. I'm very proud of all of them," said Thompson.
