Meyer, age 96, of Otwell, passed away at 10:30 p.m. on Monday, Janu- ary 30, 2023, at amber Manor Care Center, in Petersburg. Wif was born in boone Township, on July 5, 1926, to William and Clara ( Weisman) Meyer. He married, Henrietta Popp on June 9, 1948, in st. John's Lutheran Church in boone Township. she preced- ed him in death on september 22, 2001. He served in the united states army in the air Trans- port division. He was a lifelong livestock and grain farmer. He was a member of the american Legion Post #147 and st. John's Lutheran Church in boone Township where he served on the church council. He enjoyed celebrating the 4th of July, the rFd Channel, following grain prices, spend- ing time with his friends, family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He is survived by one son, steve (Mary) Meyer, of Otwell; daughter, suzanne (Tim) Warner, of Petersburg; five grandchildren, Chastity, amber, danielle, erika, and devin; nine great-grandchil- dren, Zachary, blake, Corbin, rhett, bristynn, Ocie, Tillie, Case and Kenna; and compan- ion, barbara Himsel. He is preceded in death by his wife, Henrietta Popp; two sisters, Henrietta neukam and Lovella neukam; and two brothers, Melvin and Freder- ick Meyer. a funeral service was at 11 a.m. on saturday, February 4, 2023, in st. John's Lutheran Church, in boone Township, with Pastor Timothy Kraemer officiating. burial followed in the church cemetery. The american Legion Post #147 will conduct military grave- side rites. a visitation was from 4 until 7 p.m. on Friday, at the Chapel, and one hour before services from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Memorial contributions may be made to st. NOR A EVELYN SCHLACHTER nora evelyn schlachter, 94, of Petersburg, passed away on January 28, 2023, at brickyard Health Care. she was born in Willisville, on May 26, 1928, to Virgil and ruby ( West) Willis. she is survived by son, bill (Linda) evans; brother, Carl Willis; sisters, alice smith and shelby Thei- ring; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grand- children. she is preceded in death by her parents; husbands, William Frank evans, in 1959 and Othmar schlachter, in 1974; son, stephen evans; daughter, anita Walters; and brothers, Gardner Willis and Paul Trusty. Pike Central Vocational Welding students sweep top five places Pike Central Vocational Welding students swept the top five places at the region 4 skills usa Welding Contest held at Vincennes universi- ty on saturday, February 4. six Pike Central Vocational Welding students competed with Forest P ark senior an- thony Merkley placing first. Merkley received a $2,500 scholarship from Vincennes university. Placing second was Forest Park senior Gavin sermer- sheim. sermersheim received a $1,000 scholarship from Vin- cennes university. Placing third was north- east dubois senior Gaige schepers. schepers received a $500 scholarship from Vin- cennes university. Placing fourth was Jasper senior nathan burger. burg- er received a $500 scholarship from Vincennes university. Placing fifth was Forest Park senior William Wer- ner. Werner received a $500 scholarship from Vincennes university. The top five students from each region will advance to the state Contest that will be held at Local 440 Plumbers and steamfitters Training Fa- cility in Indianapolis on april 14-15. The state winner will represent the state of Indi- ana at the national Contest held June 19 -23 in atlanta, Georgia. students were evaluated on the following: •100 question welding the- ory written test •s.M.a.W. process re- quired welding a horizontal position V-groove without a backer using a 1/8th inch e7018 electrode for root, fill, and cap pass •G.T.a.W. process required welding a horizontal T joint •G.M.a.W. process re- quired welding a flat tee joint, lap joint and a square groove butt joint.
