Titan football playing for PAC championship Friday at Boonville By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern is 8 - -0 this season and ranked number two in the Indiana Coaches poll, but they still have unfin- ished business in the Pocket Athletic Conference. Boonville is also undefeated in the big school division of the PAC. The two teams face each other at 6 p.m. Friday at Boonville and the winner will be the PAC big school cham- pions. The Pioneers are 6 -2 on the season their lone losses have been to Southridge 13-0 and 2A Linton-Stockton in a 50 -40 barn burner. Southridge is a PAC school, but in the small school divi- sion so it doesn't count toward the big school division stand- ing. It was the second week of the season. Southridge's only loss this season was the 24-14 battle with Gibson Southern. In the last three weeks since the Linton-Stockton loss, Boonville has beaten Mt. Vernon 32-20, Princeton 53-0 and Washington 54-8. They also have quality wins over 6 -2 Paoli 36 -8, and Heritage Hills 20 -16. "They are a good foot- ball team, obviously. They are undefeated in the confer- ence,"said Hart. He also thinks they have improved as the season has progressed. "If you watch them through- out the year, they have really improved on offense as the year has gone on, and on the defensive side they are good," said Hart. "They have some very talented weapons on the offense. He said both the quarter- back and running back are strong weapons. "They run first. Both the quarterback and running back are really good runners. They are run first, but they have the ability to hurt you in the air. Their quarterback does a really good job of extending the plays and they hit some big plays in the passing game," said Hart. Gibson Southern heads into the game on an eight- game win streak averaging 38.8 points game, while the defense has been dominating the last few weeks. Hart said the Titan defense has played well all year, but has taken it to another level the last few weeks. They have only given up 13.25 points a game and much of that has been in the second half against the reserves. The game starts an hour early at 6 p.m. due to both schools being on Fall Break.
