By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's girls soccer season came to an end on Saturday against the Evansville Memorial Tigers in the final of the sectional, 4-0. The Lady Titans put together a 16 -3 season and were undefeated in the Pocket Athletic Conference with an 11-0 record. But defending state champions Memorial proved too much for them. The Tigers are 18 -0 -1 on the season "During the championship game, we were reminding the girls to take in what they had accomplished so far during the season. We knew regard- less of the outcome of that Memorial game, we were very proud of how far we have come as a team and as a program," said Titan Head Coach Sylvia Adler. Gibson Southern had to win two games to get to the cham- pionship game on Saturday. They beat Boonville on Tuesday, 5 -0, as junior Ella Jones scored three goals and had an assist to lead the Lady Titans. Freshmen Lainey Cloin and Corinne Steves both added a goal. Kaleigh Baehl and Brylie Kern both had assists as well. All five goals scored in the second half. "We were happy to have the sectional draw work out the way it did so that we were able to win two games to make it to the championship. The first two games were hard fought. Boonville and Mt. Vernon put up better performances than we had seen during the season, and we had to come back from 0 -0 at halftime with Boonville and then come back from 0 -1 at half with Mt. Vernon," said Adler. Gibson Southern then came from behind to beat Mt. Vernon 3-1 on Thursday. Jones again led the Titans in scoring with two goals. Fellow senior Hailey Richter added the third. Cloin, Kern and Halle Evans all had one assist in the game. "We knew regardless of the outcome of that Memorial game, we were very proud of how far we have come as a team and as a program. We will be losing three seniors who contributed a lot. We finished our season 16 -3," said Adler.
