SPORTS South Gibson Star-Times Tuesday, September 13, 2022 B-1 Titan runners sweep Patriot cross country invitational By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern boys and girls swept the Heritage Hills Patriot Invitational on Satur- day. Titan junior Ethan Spindler won the event individually to lead the way for Gibson South- ern's boys team champion- ship. Spindler ran a 16:35 to win the meet, five seconds ahead of Aiden Mattingly of Heritage Hills. The Titans as a team placed all five runners in the top 11 positions to easily win the eight-team meet on Satur- day. Cooper Maurer, Hayden Pennington and Isaac Pohl finished sixth, seventh and eighth, running times of 17:23, 17:43 and 17:52. Lucas Kissell placed 11th in a time of 17:79. "Overall the boys and girls ran really well in winning the Invitational on Saturday. Alex ran a great race and finished strong to be the 2022 champi- on. All of the boys are running well. They are determined to be one of the top teams in southern Indiana," said Titan coach Jeremy Aydt. Other finishers for the boys were Ethan Spindler in 22nd at 18:41, Eli Maikranz in 30th at 19:35, Johnathon Spin- dler in 33rd at 19:42, Lucian Wicker in 35th at 19:42, Noah Wagener 61st in 23:00, Aid- en Loveless in 62nd at 23:01, Owen Mercer 23:02, Taylor Brundage 66th in 23:40 and Maddox Giles 68th in 23:48. The team results are: 1) Gibson Southern 33, 2) HH 68, 3) Ev. Signature 81, 4) Springs Valley 84, 5) Pike Central 119, 6) Tecumseh 154, 7) Boonville 192, 8) Crawford County 202. Girls win HH Invite Gibson Southern's girls won the Heritage Hills Patriot Invitational by placing their five scoring runners in the top 18 places for a team total of 60 points. It put them seven points ahead of second place Heritage Hills. Courtney Heldt finished in fourth place as the top Titan runner in a time of 20:47. Xav- er y Weisman of Pike Central was the individual winner in a time of 19:07. Elizabeth Steckler placed 10th in a time of 22:38, Aleks Parmer 13th in 23:15, Aleah Rexing was 17th and Bailey Baker 18th in times of 23:58 and 24:15 to round out the Ti- tans' scoring runners. Other T itan finishers were Keelyn Wilkerson in 23rd at 25:23, Payton Stock- er 24th at 15:33, Lilly Spin- dler 31st in 16:35, Kennedy Ping in 41st at 29:36 and Ha- dassah Hutchinson in 48th at 34:31. Team results were: 1) Gib- son Southern 60, 2) Forest park 67, 3) Heritage Hills 76, 4) Pike Central 79, 5) Boon- ville 81, 6) Springs Valley 142 and 7) Crawford County 172.
