Coach Sylvia Adler, in her fourth campaign on the GSHS Soccer Sidelines, has seven starters back from last year's stellar team, including the team's top two scorers from 2021 team. Junior Ella Jones pushed home 16 goals as a junior a year ago, and senior Riley Br yant, booted through 11 goals. Adler has a roster of 32 soccer hopefuls that include three seniors (Kaleigh Baehl, a defender; Br yant, for ward and Hailey Richter, midfield), 12 juniors, five sophomores, and a dozen freshmen for 2022. Also back for another sea- son is junior goalkeeper Chlo- ey Graham, who denied shot after shot and allowed just 16 goals in 17 matches. Gra- ham posted 11 shutouts in her "goalie" spot as a sophomore. She was ranked 3rd in Class 3A in saves and was ranked 12th in the entire state of Indi- ana in all four classes. Jones was a First-Team All-Conference performer for Adler in 2021, while Br yant and Graham were both select- ed as Second-Team All-Con- ference Team Members a year ago, giving the Lady Ti- tans a trio of noted returnees on the field. "We have some really good student-athletes back for this season," confided Adler in a pre-season inter view, "but we also have some big holes to fill, especially in the mid-field and with our outside backs." "The toughest part of our game we must work on is passing the ball in the mid- field area and creating an at- tack and moving the ball." "We have our top two scor- ers back, and our goalies is one of the best in the state, at any level; however, I still think that our strength, especially early, will be our defense—I believe that our defense will be ver y strong." "I believe another strength is simply our numbers with our junior (12) and senior (3) classes, and I think our team culture is absolutely the best." "This team is ver y connect- ed, and they are excited to play together. Our team chem- istr y is ver y, ver y strong." In addition to the return- ing veterans, Adler believes at least two of the freshmen will be solid varsity perform- ers, and one of those two freshmen will "probably" get a starting nod. Adler, now 29-19-3 in her previous three seasons as the Lady Titan Coach, will again have Katerina Rexing and Megan Baehl as her assistant coaches on the sidelines. Adler believes the Lady Titans will once again be a contender for the PAC Crown, along with Heritage Hills and Forest Park, and she sees Mt. Vernon and Washington as potential challengers for the conference title. Gibson Southern fell to Ma- ter Dei in the semi-finals of the Indiana High School Athletic Association (IHSAA) 3A Sec- tional last October, and that loss is still on the minds of the Lady Titans as they head into the 2022 Soccer Campaign. Gibson Southern will open the 2022 "pitch season" Mon- day in a home match with South Spencer, then stay at the Ft. Branch Community Soccer Field on Thursday, when another PAC opponent, Boonville, comes to Gibson County. The Lady Titans will hit the road for still another con- ference match on August 22 when they will travel to North Posey. Gibson Southern's 2022 girls soccer team members are, from left: Kenzie Shellhaas, Abigail Walls, Kamryn Burger, Halle Evans, Allison Bush, Jenna Loyd, Hadlee Seibert and Leah Kramer; back row: Kylie Jones, MaKindree Sanders, Nola Ravellette, Lainey Cloin, Devyn Brent, Kynlee Reeves, Carly Potts, Lilly Bush, Mabrey Wil- son and Cassie Reeves.
