and Wessler to design the Wastewater Plant Expan- sion at a cost of $52,400. With a plan, the town can apply to the state's revolv- ing loan fund and for grant oppor tunities. "Normally I wouldn't ap- prove an expenditure that high without all members here," said Councilman Dwayne Matsel, who voted in favor along with Coun- cilman Clyde Scott. "But I know Corey (Taylor) is in favor." The town looked at a bud- get higher by about $3 mil- lion for next year, which will include a new police car, the raises for the police force the town previously discussed, 4 percent raises for town employees, and extra funds budgeted to account for in- flation. They plan to vote next month during the a public meeting. Matsel plans to ab- stain because he's on the fire department, so it would be a conflict of interest to vote on that budget. I'm sure they'll appreciate anything to help with medi- cal bills, time off and travel," said Corn. "It's sad what hap- pened." The restaurant opens at 4 p.m. and normally closes at 9 p.m., but Corn said as long as the phone keeps ring- ing they'll keep pizza going. They're even willing to meet people from other parts of the county in Francisco, Mack- ey or Buckskin, if the person can't make it to their Oakland City location. Because the accident hap- pened Friday, Corn hopes lo- cals will help get the word out. "We normally have people tell us it's for a fundraiser, but since there hasn't been much time, it will be a portion of all proceeds. If anyone just wants to donate they can come in and we'll add their amount to the check for the family, or we can run a credit card over the phone if they're comfortable with that and add that amount to the fundraiser," she said. It's not Monroe Pizza's first fundraiser; they've also raised funds for hospitalized com- munity members, the Mike Deno Scholarship Fund, a playground and the local PTO. "The community has always pulled together, and done an awesome job supporting us," she said. To order pizza or donate, call 812-749-3292. For the families who attend, however, it's a source of enter- tainment that they can enjoy at all ages. Dustin Smith races with his four sons, continuing a tradi- tion he started with his dad. "My favorite part of RC racing is working on them," Smith said. His son Nikolaus said he enjoys the big jumps, difficult handling and hoping all the time not to break down. The mom, Tamika Smith, comes to be a marshal, which is a person who flips cars back over when they're on their backs. "One kid did soccer, another did football, and they're differ- ent ages. A lot of the attraction is it's something to do with the whole family," she said. RC Racer James Evans has been racing since first or sec- ond grade. "Well, me and my dad did it since I could walk. It's always been one of my hobbies," he said. "I was a baby racer." These days the sport is gain- ing momentum, he said. "There's a lot of people I see that I didn't know had an RC car who are getting into it. I'll just see them in the back of people's trucks, people I never knew were interested," he said. The Buck family does out- reach with the RC cars, giving them to underprivileged and foster children who might not other wise be able to race. For anyone who has RC cars or parts they're no longer using and would like to donate, or for those who have children that would race if they were finan- cially able to have a car, Buck can be found on Facebook on the SWIRC Southwest Indiana RC Facebook group. "It's been checked and double checked," Matsel said. The town owned the park and deeded it over properly. "If they don't want to go for ward with ADA compli- ance and want to donate it back, we would whole- hear tedly accept," he said. "But we want to be compli- ant for our disabled Amer- icans."
