Poplar Street, Petersburg The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, June 15, 2022 B-1 Hunt, Mills, Kavanaugh 1st team All PAC; Williams, Sharp and Onyett honored By Andy Heuring Editor, editor@pressdispatch.net Pike Central's sectional and regional champion team had six girls honored by the Pocket Athletic Conference. Senior Aver y Hunt and sophomores Brailey Mills and Karley Kavanaugh were named first team All-PAC in softball. Juniors Chloe Williams and Alyna Sharp were both named second team All- PAC with sophomore catcher Lexie Onyett making honorable mention. "I have said this all year and will continue to say it, our conference is one of, if not the hardest conference in the state–solid teams and a ton of talent! I am thrilled that these young ladies were recognized by the con- ference head coaches," said Charger Coach Dustin Traylor. Charger first baseman Avery Hunt batted .422 on the season with a team high .580 on-base percentage. She had 18 RBIs and two home runs. "It was Aver y's first full year of playing high school ball, as she had injuries that prevented her from playing a full year until this year. I moved her to first base, and she had never played there before. She was the anchor of our infield all year. Offensively she led the team in bat- ting average and on-base percentage through the regular season. She did all the little things," said Traylor. Sophomore center fielder Brailey Mills batted .393 on the season with 10 doubles, one home run and six RBIs. She also stole 14 bases. "I don't think there was a better defensive center fielder in the entire conference than Brailey. Her offen- sive numbers struggle a bit but she still had a .407 average through the regular season," said Traylor. Sophomore shortstop Karley Kavanaugh batted a team-high .432 with 22 RBIs and two home runs, both in the sectional championship game. She also scored a team-high 33 times and had four triples. "Karley had a phenomenal year, led the team in batting average and played solid defense all year. Karley is just a solid all around player," said Traylor. Junior pitcher Chloe Williams was 12-4 on the season with a 2.24 ERA. She had 128 strikeouts with 45 walks. On the offensive side she batted .338 with 19 RBIs and two home runs. "She was our number one pitcher all year and had some great outings for us," said Traylor. They included shutting out Gibson Southern in the sectional championship game. Charger outfielder Alyna Sharp hit for a .393 average with a team- high 10 home runs and 35 RBIs. "Alyna had a great year as well. She was a dominant force at the plate and I'm thrilled she was recog- nized for it," said Traylor. Catcher Lexie Onyett batted .364 with three home runs, two triples and 15 RBIs. "Lexie is another solid all-around player. She was hurt early in the year so we were careful with not to rush her back right away, which she hated. Having her behind the plate really solidified our defense," said Traylor. Karley Kavanaugh squares up for a bunt. Kavanaugh was named first team All-PAC middle infielder. Charger Aver y Hunt pulls in a throw at first base for an out. She was selected first team All-PAC. Charger center fielder Brailey Mills runs down fly ball. She was named first team All-PAC.
