Timothy, "be strong," don't let others rob you of the grace that you've freely received. And legalism will do just this if we allow it. It's the enemy of grace. Like the Pharisees, the legalist wants to set the standard, which he decrees to be the measure of spirituality. Legalists love to develop an unspoken list of do's and don'ts for others to follow. You must conform to what they have established as acceptable behavior in regard to how you should dress or act, or what reference Bible you must carr y, or how many church ser vices you should attend throughout the week. Failure to conform is a sure indication that you are not ver y spiritually minded. Beloved, God has given us the standard we are to follow in His Word; it's called GRACE! Today, we are not under the Law, nor are we to submit ourselves to those who believe they are the final authority as to how the Christian life should be lived. Grace teaches us how to live; it is patient, understand- ing, and tolerant. Grace always leaves room for differences. It's never judgmental (1 Corin- thians 4:5). So then, Timothy was not to allow anyone to rob him of the liberty he enjoyed in Christ, nor should we. "Be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus." The scriptures tell us Satan is known by many names; the great dragon, that serpent of old, the tempter, accuser of the brethren, angel of light, the Devil and Satan. Jesus's first encounter with the "tempter" was in his wilderness tempta- tions. He tempted Jesus three times and each time Jesus said, "it is written" referring to the Word of God in De 8:3, De 6:6, and 6:13. Paul says to put on the "whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil" Ep 6:11. Satan is afraid of the Word of God. I recall reading Hal Lind- sey's book, "Satan Is Alive And Well On Planet Earth (1972)." The book is his attempt to prove that Satan is not dead! Fifty years have passed since this book was written, yet much of what he wrote then is still fresh and relevant today. Times have changed, but Satan's tricks, disguises, and modus operandi has not. The conflict between Satan and humans is heating up, and you had better be on guard. Jesus reveals Satan as the originator of evil. He says the devil "was a murderer from the beginning, and does not stand in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaks a lie, he speaks from his own resources, for he is a liar and the father of it" John 8:44. The source of all evil begins with the devil. Jesus said the devil is the father of everyone who does evil. Paul adds to Satan's skill- ful ability to deceive when he wrote: "And no wonder! For Satan himself disguises him- self as an angel of light" 2Co 11:14. Evil is often disguised as good, yet it is still evil. Psychology steers clear of any discussion about evil spirits and the devil. Psycholo- gy is based upon the evolution model, hence no God, no soul, and no sin. There is no room for the devil in psychiatry. The fact remains that psychi- atry—science—has not and will never discover a working model of evil because it rejects the source of evil: Satan and sin! Psychology believes that evil originates in abnormal thinking, which develops into a psychiatric disorder that can be treated! Sin is abnormal thinking and living which can only be cured by God. There are a few mental health professionals who brave the criticism and wrath of their colleagues and step into the realm of the supernatural to explain evil. Psychiatrist and author Scott Peck broke ranks with his book, "The People of the Lie: The Hope for Healing Human Evil (1998)." He says that evil is not a mental illness. Evil people hide their motives with lies. They want to appear to be good. Evil seeks to discourage others to think for themselves. His experi- ence dealing with evil people taught him that the wisest and most secure adult will usually experience confusion when confronted by evil. Peck says to oppose evil, we must have an ongoing dedication to reality at all costs. Our Christian reality begins at Christ! We can overcome Evil. Paul's remedy is "Do not be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good," Ro 12:21. Peter gives his remedy, "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. Resist him, steadfast in the faith" 1Pe 5:8-9. James gives a similar pre- scription, "Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" The devil believes more in God than many Christians. Jas 4:7. "You believe that there is one God. You do well. Even the demons believe — and tremble!" Jas 2:19. Psychiatry may not believe in God, but Satan does. What do you believe? of their annual Cruise-in. We are distributing letters asking for donations to help us build our treasur y so we can help others. Funds are extremely hard to come by because you can have only so many fundraisers. We would have more raffles and half pot sales if a gambling license wasn't needed, but we don't want to get anyone in trouble. We will have an information tent set up by the free stage during the 4H fair. Please stop by and consider becoming one of our fellow lions. We need more members. Our grandson had his last t-ball game Wednesday night and they looked like they were ready to play, especial- ly while batting. They all recieved a medal which said T-ball on it. Wyatt couldn't have been any prouder of his medal. I think he showed it to ever yone he saw that evening. If you use Jif peanut but- ter there is FYI out where some of it was recalled. Jif 's website has the lot numbers of the af fected jars of peanut butter. There was many dif ferent sizes of jars af fected so look it up and get a refund if you have bought some of the recalled jars. After we got home from church we did our best to clean up our filthy car. I have said it before, our cars are more like trash cans with wheels. It took awhile but I think I'm catching up. We have gotten our code viola- tion taken care of and that was one we hadn't counted on but it did push us to get after it. Well this may be a wee bit shorter but things have also been running smoother for us which means there isn't as much to carp about. Okay here it is I want you to be a blessing to eveyone and always think before we speak. Talk to you all later. Sunday, June 20, we will be honoring all men for Father's Day. Dad A dad is someone who loves you no matter what you do. A Dad is patient, helpful, and strong. He is there by your side when things go wrong. He never looks for praises, he's never one to boast, he just goes on quietly working for those he loves the most. My best memor y to recall is the gift of your presence, the greatest gift of all. He was always my pillar when I knew I'd fall, always my anchor, so strong and tall. If I could write a stor y, it would be the greatest ever told, I'd write about my daddy and the love he always showed. "Start children off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not turn from it" (Proverbs 22:6 NIV). Happy Father's Day.
