Mark Wade, Deacon Christian 1ST CHRISTIAN CHURCH 1400 E. Main Street Petersburg 812-354-6775 (Office) 941-730-6324 (Dennis Randall) As a minister, constantly reading and studying, and doing research concerning Biblical historicity, I've always admired the heart and writ- ings of C.S. Lewis. Lewis had come to faith through many struggles including attempting to disprove the authenticity of Jesus Christ. The more he studied, the more he searched, the more he came to believe that Jesus of Nazareth was in fact, the Son of God. It was out of his faith and ultimate commitment to Jesus that influenced most of his writings. Here is one of his quotes, bold, piercing and to the point. "You must make your choice: either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon; or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God. But let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to." Provocative to say the least. Whether or not you believe in Jesus, Lewis sets forth a powerful apologetic for his belief, for mine, and for yours if you will open your heart and mind. Join us this Sunday at 9:30 for Bible Study, and 10:30 for worship. Our special guest singer for Sunday will be Jayla Harris. It will be a great day to honor our Fathers! Then some stood up and gave this false testimony against him: "We heard him say, 'I will destroy this temple made with human hands and in three days will build another, not made with hands.'" Yet even then their testimony did not agree. Then the high priest stood up before them and asked Jesus, "Are you not going to answer? What is this testimony that these men are bringing against you?" But Jesus remained silent and gave no answer. Again the high priest asked him, "Are you the Messiah, the Son of the Blessed One?" "I am," said Jesus. "And you will see the Son of Man sit- ting at the right hand of the Mighty One and coming on the clouds of heaven." The high priest tore his clothes. "Why do we need any more witnesses?" he asked. "You have heard the blasphemy. What do you think?" They all condemned him as wor thy of death. (Mark 14:57-64). Joe Henson, Pastor Matt Haycraft, Reporter JESUS CHRIST OUR FIRM FOUNDATION 1415 N. They are new ever y morning: great is thy faithfulness" (Lamentations 3:22-23). It's one of the saddest stories of the Bible, yet it inspired one of the most hopeful hymns of the twen- tieth centur y. The prophet Jeremiah witnessed unimag- inable horrors when the Babylonians invaded Jeru- salem in 586 BC. Solomon's temple was reduced to ruins, and with it went not only the center of worship but also the heart of the community. The people were left with no food, no rest, no peace, no leader. But in the midst of suffering and grief, one of their proph- ets found a reason for hope. "It is of the LORD's mercies that we are not consumed," wrote Jeremiah, "because his compasssions fail not. They are new ever y morning: great is thy faithfulness." Jeremiah's hope came from his personal experience of the Lord's faithfulness and from his knowledge of God's promises in the past. Without these, he would have been unable to comfort his people. This hope of Lamentations 3 is echoed in a hymn by Thomas Chisholm (1866- 1960). Although suffering sickness and setbacks throughout his life, he wrote "Great Is Thy Faithfulness." It assures us that even in times of great fear, tragic loss, and intense suffering we can find comfort and confidence as we trustin God's great faithful- ness — JAL. So many trials come into our lives and along with the business of life. These things can easily choke out the Life of God in us. But praise God, "But seek ye first the Kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things will be added unto you" (Matthew 6:33). What things will be added?
