Genealogy Department at Library offers Historical card making By Sherri Sebella News Editor sherri@pressdispatch.net The Genealogy Depart- ment at Pike County Public Librar y (PCPL) has worked diligently to begin programs for the community to enjoy. On Thursday, June 9, a historical card making program was held at the librar y with staf f on hand to help those in attendance do research and find pictures of historical places or family members. "We had this program to get people in our department to learn how to use micro- film and machines," Denise Schnarr, who works in the Genealogy Department, at PCPL, said. " We have more than 1890 family files, in addition to Pike County histor y, other counties, and other states. We can help people trace their family ancestors or we can do it for them." In conjunction with the Genealogy Depar tment, the PCPL invites residents to record and share their personal experiences during the COVID19 pandemic to be preser ved for generations to come. Donations will be added to the collection to document the local ef fects of this global crisis. Such materials become invalu- able to future historians and genealogists, so PCPL seeks to collect a variety of perspectives and accounts of the current events. The librar y asks that those interested, please email if they want to be added to an email list to stay informed about when and how to transfer their materials to the librar y. The librar y will be able to accept donations under the following guidelines: •Journal/diar y entries, narratives, letters, poetr y, and other written forms, handwrit- ten or typed. •Typed documents may be printed by the donor or emailed to the librar y for printing. •Originals are preferred, but scans or photocopies of originals are also accepted. •Photographs (printed on photo paper or computer paper). •Drawings and other graphic arts in a 2D paper format up to 9"x14". The depar tment has mi- Derr y Creutz, Clerk in Special Sections of the Pike County Public Librar y (PCPL) helps Ellyn Hall edit photos of her mother and uncles.
