Bump, deceased (April 19 and 26, 2022) hspaxlp Lady Titans fell to North Posey last week By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's softball lost an ug- ly game to North Posey in their conference opener 13-5. The Lady Titan defense kept North Posey's bats at bay in the top of the first. In the bottom of the inning Gibson Southern opened with a run, when Sydney Long reached base after be- ing hit by a pitch. She stole second base and advanced on a sacrifice fly by Ally Malone. That all changed in the second inning. Vi- king senior Haley Lowe jacked a two-one pitch over the fence in left center to tie the game. Six batters and three errors later, North Posey led 4-1. In the top of the fourth inning Alexis Tuck- er gave up a single to Alyssa Heath between two strikeouts. Heath stole second base. With two outs Lauren Kihn hit a line shot over Em- maLee Higgs' head at second that scored Heath. Gibson Southern mounted a rally in the fourth when Taylor Fonte led off with a walk, and Tucker singled. Higgs's single scored Fonte, and left the Titans with runners on first and second with no out. Burgess bunted the runners over, and Lau- ryn Adamson's ground-out sacrifice scored Tucker, before Long's sharply hit fly was caught by the center fielder for the third out. The inning ended with Gibson Southern trail- ing 5 -2. Two fielding errors in the top of the sixth inning by the Titans had two runners on for North Posey, when Erin Hoehn stepped to the plate with a fierce tailwind and the tempera- tures dropping into the 40s. Hoehn crushed a 2-2 pitch over the center field fence for an 8 -2 lead. Kihn followed suit for back-to-back homers. The seventh inning was similar. Maddy Olander, Ashton Elpers and Heath led off the inning with consecutive singles, loading the bases again for Hoehn, who came to the plate with one out. This time she blasted a 1-1 pitch out in nearly the same place for a 13-2 lead. Hoehn, on the day, was 2 for 2 with two home runs, six RBIs and three walks. Gibson Southern scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh in an attempted come- back. It started with a single by Long, who was 2 for 2. Brenna Blume was hit by a pitch, setting the stage for Olivia Money's three-run homer over center field. With the loss, Gib- son Southern dropped to 6 -4.
