See BASEBALL on 6 By Andy Heuring Star-Times Sports sports@sgstartimes.com Gibson Southern's golf team shot a 166 on a soggy, windy day Tuesday night, de- spite a poor start. They easily beat Wood Memorial which shot a 203 in the tough conditions. "The course is playing a bit tougher right now due to soggy fairways and greens which are still healing from recent aeration but, the guys are working hard. I'm pleased where we are right now....but, we've got to keep working hard. We need to hit more greens and make more putts and lower scores will come," said Ti- tan head coach Matt Reinbrecht. The Titans got off to a slow start after all five varsity players were at least three over, after two holes. Senior Ryan Islam and Peyton Blackard both took 12 strokes to play the first two holes that have a combined par of nine. Islam doubled the first hole and had bo- gey on two. Blackard started by with a par on hole one, but then hit two in the water on hole 2 to post a triple bogey. Both turned their games around. Blackard made bogey on hole 4 to be four over. Then, he turned it on. A fter par- ring the difficult par three, fifth hole. He hit his approach shot into hole 6 to about five feet and made the putt for par.
