Sophomore guard Quade Morton was named to the Second Team All PAC squad. Kendric Sorgius, a junior for- ward, was named honorable mention. Morton and Sorgius led Pike Central to an 11-13 sea- son. The young Charger squad started slow going 2- 8, then turning it around and finishing 9 -5 . They lost 55 -53 in overtime to Sullivan, in the Princeton Sectional champi- onship game. Pike Central beat Princeton 43-37 in the first round, and then Vin- cennes 51-43 in the second round to advance to the fi- nals. Morton led Pike Central in scoring this year, averaging 16 points a game. He also av- eraged five rebounds, three assists and two steals. "Quade had a great year. He put in a lot of work on his game, and in the weight room during the off season, and it really showed on the court. He is one of the best guards in Southern Indiana, and before it is all said and done, he has the ability to be one of the best in the state. Quade has the potential to do a lot of great things these next couple years," said Pike Central Head Coach Hunter Elliott. Sorgius averaged 10 points and seven rebounds a game, as well as three assists. "Kendric is a three sport athlete and one of the top players in the conference in all three. He really start- ed playing his best basket- ball the second half of the season and when he played well we played well. He is an extremely hard worker who puts in a lot of time in the weight room and on his game. Kendric has the poten- tial to be a college athlete in multiple sports. I am bless- ed to be able to coach both of these young men, and ex- cited to see what they can do moving forward," said El- liott. The first team All-PAC se- lections are: Drew Howard, of Forest Park; Trent Sis- ley, of Heritage Hills; Holton Compton, of South Spencer; Logan Riester, of Washing- ton; Johnathan Ricketss, of North Posey; Harold Bender, of North Posey; Clay Conner, of Boonville; Carter White- head, of Southridge; and Nicot Burnett, of Mt. Vernon. Second team selections are Quade Morton, of Pike Cen- tral; Kaden Huress, of Gib- son Southern; Keaton Lloyd, of Tell City; Cale Donoho, of South Spencer; Joah Horrall, of Washington; Dax Bailey, of Tecumseh; Kaydin Duvall, of South Spencer; Jace Jen- kins, of Princeton; and Reid Howard, of Forest Park. By Andy Heuring Pike Central's middle school wrestling team had three wrestlers placed in the 13-team Pocket Athletic Con- ference championships on Sat- urday at Heritage Hills. Briar Thomas at 150 pounds placed fourth. Thom- as received a bye in the first round and then pinned South- ridge's Blayden Hewitt in the second round. In the semi-fi- nal match he lost by pin to North Posey's Wyatt Gam- blin (17-2). In the third place match, Thomas lost to Princ- eton's Max Moody by pin for fourth place. Thomas finished the sea- son 15 -4. Alex Gray placed fifth for the Chargers at 140 pounds. He won his first round match over Landon Shoemaker of Princeton in just 45 sec- onds. He then lost to Cody Fitts of North Posey by fall. This put Gray in the consola- tion semi-final match where he pinned Isaak Johnson of Boonville in 30 seconds. He then beat Shoemaker again in the fifth place match. Gray finishes the season with a 13-7 record. Gage Morton at 110 pounds was the other Charger to place for Pike Central. Morton fin- ished the day in sixth place. Morton lost his first round by pin to Dalton Pledger of Heritage Hills in 3:59. In the first round consolation match he received a forfeit. In the second round consolation match he pinned Jaxon Rog- ers of South Spencer in 2:54. Morton then pinned Boon- ville's Ryan Russel in 40 sec- onds to advance to the fifth place match where he lost a 6 -3 decision to 19 -2 Clayton Roesner of Forest Park. Morton finished the sea- son 7-9. Pike Central placed 12th in the meet. Team scores for the event were: 1) Gibson South- ern 289.5, 2) Mt. Vernon 176.5, 3) Southridge 170, 4) Heritage Hills 166, 5) Princ- eton 150, 6) Boonville 137, 7) Tell City 130, 8) North Posey 127, 9) Washington 93, 10) Te- cumseh 55, 11) South Spencer 52, 12) Pike Central 45, 13) Forest Park 27. Sullivan advances to semi-state By Andy Heuring Sullivan won the 3A Wash- ington Regional and advances to the semi-state. The Golden Arrows, who beat Pike Central in overtime 55 -53 in the championship game of the Princeton Sec- tional are on their way to the semi-state. Sullivan beat North Har- rison (19 -4) on a last second shot by Randy Kelley, 52-49 in the morning game. They then came back from a 16 -0 deficit to beat Evansville Bosse 89 - 85 in the championship game Saturday night. Kelley scored the layup at the buzzer against Pike Cen- tral at the end of regulation to tie the game in the sectional. On Friday night, he drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to beat Washington. Sullivan will play Beech Grove at 1 p.m. in the Wash- ington Semi-state on Satur- day. The winner advances to the state finals. Sullivan is 25 -2 and Beech Grove is 20 -6. Kendrick Sorgius Quade Morton Middle school swim has a tough week By Andy Heuring Pike Central's middle school swim teams had a tough week, as they swam against some of the toughest competition they will see, in two meets last week. On Tuesday the boys placed second and the girls third in a three-way meet with Jasper and Tecumseh. Jasper won the boys meet with 152 points. Pike Cen- tral had 79 and Tecumseh 53. In the girls competition Jas- per won 126, with Tecumseh a near second with 119 and Pike Central 62. "This was a tough meet against some really good swim- mers, but both teams still swam well," said Pike Central Coach Andrew Russell. On the boys side Awstyn Luff was a double winner. He won the 100 individual medley in a time of 1:07.63. He was three sec- onds faster than Jasper's Mitch- ell Huebner in second place. Luff also won the 50 butter- fly in a time of 27.74, which was nearly seven seconds faster than Jasper's Pascal Conrad, who posted a time of 34.4 Luff was also a member of the second place 200 medley re- lay team of Julian Hays, Jaco- by Smith and Tyler Collins. They swam a 2:37.39. The event was won by Jasper in a time of 2:08.46. Pike Central's 200 freestyle relay of Luff, Collins, Smith and Zane DeCoursey placed second with a time of 2:19.43. Jasper won Kylee Weathers churned out a third place in the 100 free and a second in the 100 IM against Heritage Hills.
