The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, March 9, 2022 C-3 PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the TRINITY "Cats are natural com- panions of intellectuals. They are silent watchers of dreams, inspiration, and patient research"—Dr. Fer- nand Mery. This week PAWS is fea- turing a daring feline named Trinity, who is very adventurous and is usually prowling around the office at PAWS and sometimes jumps out of a cat tree when you least expect it. Trinity is a short haired macker- el/striped tabby with gor- geous jade green eyes, ap- proximately six months old and can be adopted by call- ing 812-354-9894. In Ecclesiastes wise old Solomon, stricken in years himself, describes the aging process that creeps up on us like the leopard that stalks its prey. "Remember now thy Cre- ator in the days of thy youth, while the evil days come not, nor the years draw nigh, when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them" (Eccle- siastes 12:1). Someday the grim reaper will stand at the foot of our deathbed and the "mourners [will] go about the streets" whispering: Has he passed on? Beloved, there are thou- sands of ways to leave this earthly tabernacle, but per- haps the most common today is when the "pitcher is bro- ken at the fountain." In short, a fatal heart attack. "Then shall the dust re- turn to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return un- to God who gave it" (vs. 7). The sting of death is sin, but thanks be unto God that Christ died for our sins there- by removing its sting. Thus, according to Paul's epis- tles death is merely a pas- sage way into eternal life for all those who believe (I Corinthians 15:55 -57; He- brew 2:14,15). No one looks forward to growing old, but hopefully we will do so gracefully and with dignity. As they say: "There is noth- ing to fear, but fear itself." The blood of Christ is our eternal life insurance policy which has a rider guarantee- ing our future resurrection! great big well done for the way she has taught these children. Here is where I personally give her a HIP HIP HOOR AH. I was afraid that I would erupt into a coughing mess, but I was able to stifle the cough which was dying to come out and disturb everyone around me. I thank God above for the help to keep my cough under control. I cleared the pipes out as soon as we got outside so I made it. Our son Michael and his wife work at Jasper Engines and they drop off the grandkids for us to send to school and to babysit. I usually get up when they bring them so the rest of the family can go back to bed for awhile longer and not worry about over sleeping. A fter ev- erything is accomplished I usu- ally sit down in my recliner and get a little nap. It is all part of loving your family. The snow we had Friday was a blowing white out at times. As big as the flakes were I thought we would have a large snow fall. Some of the flakes I saw were as big as nickels. Well, at least they looked that big. If you are like me it wouldn't bother me for that to be our last snow for this year. When you talk using old sayings you have to say Sat- urday morning was as cold as witch's heart and the wind was blowing the tune Dixie. A fter missing two weeks of church it was good to see our church friends and worship with them. Our Sunday school teacher is taking us a journey through the time line of events of our faith history. Bro. Rich had a good sermon about not looking so close to the outer appearance of people. Instead look to see the good- ness of God in their lives. Yes, it is becoming harder and hard- er to see anything good about Russia invading Ukraine, but we have to realize there is evil as well as goodness in this life. The goodness mentioned here is not to be so quick to only see the bad in our fellow worship- pers, but see the goodness of God in them. I have been sharing some of my past with you and I hope you haven't formed an evil opin- ion of me. I have asked God to forgive my craziness. Last week I spoke of being in the Marine Corps and how rough boot camp was, but I never once seen myself as Mr. A. J. Squared Away nor Mr. Tough guy. I wasn't much of a scrapper but I would always stand my ground, which got me whipped often. One day in boot camp I was brutally attacked by another re- cruit from New Orleans. This man must have thought it was his duty to police anyone that was bringing down his squad- ron. While we were on the pa- rade deck practicing this guy tried to make football out of me as he proceeded to kick me and then slap me across the side of the head. Upon returning to our Quon- set hut this same man ran in and grabbed me by surprise and slung me into a wall. I was hurt, but I would have been hurt worse if the others hadn't stopped him. I never wished this man any harm and to this day I have kept this in my mem- ory bank until I started pen- ning some of my adventures. Hey enough of this let's get out there and be a blessing to all we come in contact with. MINUTES RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 1 POINTS Continued from page 1 For the rest of us, life went on after Elvis and we nary missed a step. Lent brings the believer to the stark reality of life and death. It reminds us on Ash Wednesday that, 'from dust we were made, and to dust we will return.' Ouch! What a reality of life. In John's Gospel, Martha was grief-stricken over the death of her brother Lazarus. She was upset with Jesus tak- ing so long to arrive af- ter she sent word to him that his friend Lazarus was near death. When Jesus ar- rived, she said, 'Lord, if you had been here, my brother would not have died… Jesus said to her, Your brother will rise again.' What follows next is a les- son in listening closely and believing. 'Martha said to him, I know he will rise again in the resurrection on the last day. Jesus said to her, I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he dies, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall nev- er die. Do you believe this? ' Jesus just set the stage for the greatest miracle and life-changing event ever wit- nessed on earth. Jesus goes to the tomb and says, 'Take away the stone.' The Hebrew writer tells us to get rid of ev- ery weight and sin that easi- ly besets us. We need to roll away the stone of fear, unbe- lief, and doubt to see what God will do for us. You roll away the stone and God will perform the miracle. Now comes the lesson on listening closely. Mar- tha says,"'Lord, by this time there will be an odor, for he has been dead four days." Je- sus said to her, "Did I not tell you that if you believed you would see the glory of God? " When Jesus spoke of Lazarus rising again, Mar- tha automatically presumed, he would rise later instead of sooner. She wasn't listening closely. Lent is upon us, and the faithful will contemplate the Passion of Christ. Consider the implications of this pas- sage upon your life, "Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life. He does not come into judgment, but has passed from death to life." Do you believe this? God has taken care of the death problem. What else can he do for you? Live by faith and conquer fear with Christ. Think about it! Building a relationship with God is a question that most of us think about often, but it doesn't have to be compli- cated. If you have a desire to build a relationship with God, that is the essential first step. That sets your intention and focus. The rest is a matter of taking regular baby steps towards God and being open to what happens. God is not going to knock you over to get closer to you. We have the freedom to in- vite Him into our lives or not. You're not likely to wake up one morning with the certain feeling that you've become friends with God (though that could happen). Like hu- man relationships, it usually takes an investment of time and attention and caring, and it's up to you to take the initia- tive of moving closer to God— of placing yourself in His pres- ence and just abiding there. You might not even feel any- thing at all at first. But when you do this over and over again, the emotion and belief will follow, and you'll begin to trust He is with you and is guiding you. We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter SUBSCRIBE TODAY! afraid truth. 812-354-8500
