Steven Lenover, of Mon- mouth, Illinois, was driving a white International 9200i, go- ing straight on River Road and drove off into a ditch, with the passenger trailer tires stuck in the ditch. Lenover stated that he saw the no semi traffic sign, but continued into Pike Coun- ty on State Road 61 anyway. Lenover said he turned down River Road to turn around, but was stuck in the ditch. A tow truck pulled Lenover out of the ditch off of River Road, but then Lenover got stuck again on Petersburg City property trying to turn around. A fter being pulled out of the mud by the tow truck, Lenover was able to make it back to State Road 61. Le- nover made several tire ruts on city and private property and was charged with Disre- garding Sign/Reg Sign. To- tal estimate of damages were $5001 to $10,000. Driver fails to stop on State Road 64 hits vehicle By Sherri Sebella Dalton Williams, 21, of Winslow, failed to stop and hit the car in front of him on State Road 64 Wednesday, February 16. Williams said he was be- hind a maroon Pontiac driv- en by Jacob Havens, 33, of Stendal, and noticed it had stopped. Williams said both he and Havens were traveling west on State Road 64 and he did not know what happened, but remembered blinking and then hitting the rear end of Havens' Pontiac. Havens said he was attempt- ing to turn left onto State Road 257, looked in his rear view mirror and noticed Williams was not slowing down, but he could not move out of the way. Williams had front end damage to his vehicle and Ha- vens had damage to the rear of his vehicle. Williams' vehi- cle was towed, while Havens was able to drive away from the scene of the crash. Butler arrested for possession and contributing By James Capozella A traffic stop made by State Trooper Casey Boeckman re- sulted in possession of mar- ijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor charges for Alexis B. But- ler, 19, 102 E Lafayette St. Winslow. Trooper Boeckman was traveling south on SR 61 at 9:41 pm when he noticed a car weaving from centerline to the white line. He observed the driver using a cell phone and initiated the traffic stop near CR 150S according to the report. Boeckman reported the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle and during a conversation with Butler and a juvenile passenger, he learned they were smoking while driv- ing. Butler had very red and glassy eyes, her pupils were very dilated and she spoke very slowly. She tried to calm the juvenile who was freaking out and starting to cry accord- ing to the report. During a conversation with Butler, it was learned that there was marijuana in a bag and also in a locked box in the back. Once Deputies Jared Simmons and Kane Os- gatharp arrived, Boeckman had Butler perform standard field sobriety tests and also transported her to the Da- viess Community Hospital where a presumptive blood test showed Butler was under the influence of marijuana ac- cording to the report. Full and partly smoked marijuana blunts, and a met- al grinder were found in the car and inside the passen- ger door. The juvenile's par- ents were called and Butler's mother was called to pick up the car. Butler was ticketed for dis- tracted driving, possession of paraphernalia, possession of marijuana and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Pike County is one of 14 counties in Southwest Cen- tral Indiana to benefit from a grant to examine the agricul- tural output in their regions and identify opportunities for creating new markets, appli- cations, or processing facili- ties that can enhance the lo- cal value of the agricultural products. This will create new mar- kets and income for local farmers, generate more local jobs connected to agriculture, and capture a greater source of revenue for the region's communities. The Rural Economic De- velopment model was creat- ed as a collaboration between the Indiana Economic Devel- opment Association (IEDA), Indiana State Department of Agriculture and the Purdue Center for Regional Develop- ment (PCRD) with support from the Indiana Farm Bu- reau, Indiana Corn Market- ing Council, Indiana Soybean Alliance and the Indiana Of- fice of Community and Rural A ffairs. "Agriculture and agribusi- ness are one of my main eco- nomic engines in our com- munity," said Ashley Willis, executive director of the Pike County Economic Develop- ment Corporation. "Agribusi- ness expansion is one of our target markets for growth in Pike County. Going through the process of the Rural Eco- nomic Development Model will be a great exercise as we narrow the ag scope for eco- nomic development to bring new investment and job cre- ation to our region." The Rural Economic Devel- opment Model employs a pro- prietary technology devel- oped by PCRD that enables counties and regions to ex- amine the agricultural out- put unique to their locale, and then engages a local planning team composed of local eco- nomic development officials, farmers, and other local stake- holders to create and imple- ment a plan to leverage local agricultural outputs, expand existing agribusinesses and attract new economic oppor- tunities. The 24-month process will be completed in the Summer of 2023. It developed in Indi- ana to assist rural communi- ties in creating new econom- ic development opportunities for Indiana's farmers. Besides Pike County, Crawford, Daviess, Dubois, Greene, Harrison, Jackson, Knox, Martin, Lawrence, Pike, Spencer, Perry, Orange, and Washington Counties will share in the grant, which to- tals $100,097.
