The Press-Dispatch Wednesday, Feburar y 23, 2022 D-3 Church Note Deadline 10 a.m. Tuesday PAWS WEEK PAWS WEEK Pet of the PEPPER ANNE "The world would be a nicer place if everyone had the ability to love as uncon- ditionally as a dog"—M.K. Clinton. This week PAWS is fea- turing a spunky young gal named Pepper Anne, who was initially a bit timid up- on her arrival at PAWS, but is beginning to trust her caregivers and romp and play without fear. She is very agile and active, gets along well with dogs and cats, loves her toys and balls, is tri-colored black, brown and white with soft, short fur. Her tail curls over her back when she prances about in the dog yard at PAWS. To adopt this adorable canine, call 812- 354-9894. grace, persecuted and im- prisoned (Ephesians 6:20). This showed man's attitude toward God and His grace. It will be brought to a close as man continues persistent- ly to go on in his sin rather than accept redeeming grace through Christ (II Corinthi- ans 4:4; II Timothy 3:1-5). The Kingdom of Christ, which is to follow the present age, will begin with our Lord rebuking strong nations (Mi- cah 4:3) and will close with multitudes, who for a time had rendered enforced obe- dience, following Satan (Rev- elations 20 :7-9). How all this demonstrates man's need of God and salva- tion through our Lord Jesus Christ! "All have sinned" (Ro- mans 3:23) but, thank God: "Whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved" (Romans 10 :13). Though surrounded by sin and rebellion, multitudes down through history have called and have been saved. are taking every day. I don't have many indoor projects to work on so I'm ready to burn sticks get a garden ready. I'm espeically looking forward to washing the car. Maybe it will look like a car instead of a motorized trashcan. I'll tell a couple more ac- counts of being in the band and some of the things that stand out in my memories. Mr. Bolte took our band places. One of them was an expo of bands to Vincennes University to march and to make formation as you march and stay on your des- ignated yard line. I missed my mark on one of the forma- tions. Instead of acting like I had missed my mark I just marched up to the next yard line and made a real fancy turn as though it was part of the program, then proceeded to my designated spot. I thought I had done well until the next day. Mr. Bolte was reading our critique from the university judg- es and it read that we had a beautiful performance ex- cept for the trombone player trying to cover up his mis- take, so much for being hap- py with myself for pulling off my cover up. We were marching in a pa- rade in Evansville and it was so cold the slide on my trom- bone was actually froze in one position and the mem- bers playing instruments with valves had their instru- ments froze as well. Horrible sounding music playing ev- erything in one position. For you elder readers who remember Marsha Yockey being the weather lady with style (not sure what kind of style) on channel Seven. She was at one of the 150 year re- union of one of the little com- munities near Jasper and she kept us all laughing be- fore the parade. I remember one of her stories. She said it was time to pay her paper- boy for delivering the paper, the bill was 55 cents a week. She said she had 55 pennies to pay him with and as she was paying him she tossed the pennies down and told him to search for his money like she had to search for her paper each day. I taught Sunday school Sunday morning and we had a lesson about some of the foolishness we do and shouldn't do. This is definite- ly a personal thing for your life. We had many differing thoughts, but like I said they were personal thoughts. It turned out to be a great les- son and many things were learned by each others com- ments. Well let's do as we have been asked to do for so long and that is be a blessing to all you meet. MINUTES RAMBLINGS Continued from page 1 Continued from page 1 POINTS Continued from page 1 kings and result in the ruin of Israel, the destruction of the Temple he built, and the captivity of the nation. The apostle Paul wrote let- ters to the Corinth church telling Christians to flee from idolatry, abstain from sexu- al depravity, and do not eat meat sacrificed to idols. Idol worship and sexual immoral- ity was common throughout the Roman empire. Some say that we live in a world which is Satanically possessed. In Paul's letter to the church at Ephesus, he presents a good case: "For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places," Eph 6:12. Many people, including Christians, would say we are too sophisticated and intelli- gent to believe in such an- cient superstitions. Think again. For years, people have raved about ads appearing during the Superbowl for their artistic, groundbreak- ing, and bold approach used in hyping a product. Some- times it is only in the closing seconds of an ad will a view- er know what an ad is all about. Most people watch- ing this year's Superbowl ads unknowingly and sub- consciously saw many oc- cult images and themes. You saw people and images me- ta morphing from one thing into another, and sometimes materializing from nowhere into our dimension. Some ads, while appearing innoc- uous, had paranormal satan- ic themes. Some of the soon to be released movie and T V show previewed para- normal activities, violence, murder, mayhem, and sexu- al violence, portrayed as won- derful entertainment? Sad- ly, hordes of Christians will tune in or buy a ticket to be 'Satanically' entertained. I expect the world to re- main clueless to the satan- ic influence around them. Yet many Christians are just as blind. If you want proof, I suggest you Google satanic or occult images and sym- bols and see what comes up. It may shock you to learn that many gestures used by celebrities, world leaders, and even well-known Chris- tians have their origin in the occult. By accident, you say. Harmless? Do not believe it. Secret societies and groups have used gestures and symbols for thousands of years to broadcast their secret membership to oth- er members while hiding it in plain sight from an unsus- pecting public. Your favor- ite actor, singer, preacher, or politician just might dab- ble in the occult right before your eyes. In defense of my outland- ish assertions, I suggest you read Second Corinthi- ans, chapter eleven. Paul says Satan is transformed, which means disguised, as an angel of light. He also disguised his ministers as ministers of righteousness. Jesus says there are a lot of wolves in sheep's clothing in the church. A good example is Judas. No one knew until the end he was a wolf except Jesus. Peter says that the devil is like a roaring lion looking for people to devour. Our victo- ry over him is to resist him steadfast in the faith. You cannot resist him if you do not know how. I suggest you spend more time in prayer and studying your Bible and less time being entertained. God and your money What money? That's a good question. The sad reality is that ma- ny American families spend more money than they make. That should be a shocking fact for Christians. Why? Because Christians are supposed to be good stewards of all that we have: our time, talent, intel- ligence, energy and posses- sions, including money. Let's consider money from the Christian standpoint: 1. It is not sinful to earn all the legitimate money one can garner. In itself, money is not evil. It is the love of money we must resist. 2. It is important to save as much as one can — at least 10 percent. 3. It is vital to make a bud- get and stick to it. 4. God owns the world and gives us the responsibility to take care of it. It takes money to care for home and property. 5. We should strive to give at least 10 percent to God's work, which includes the church. 6. One reliable fact about stewardship: There is no way we can out-give our loving God. Ever! Office hours: 9 a.m.-noon, Monday-Friday. Amy Melhiser, Secretary OTWELL WESLEYAN CHURCH 2277 N. Mechanics Street Otwell Pastor 812.354.3028 Sunday school at 9:30 a.m.; morning worship at 10 :30 a.m.; 6:30 p.m. Sunday eve- ning worship service. Trusting God in the midst of trouble Many times when in the midst of trouble we may ask, why this sickness, why pain, why loneliness, why should I bear a cross? Jesus offers a very different perspective on the question of suffering, and that is, how will God bring joy out of pain? Let us, through the power of faith, trust God to work it out. The strategy in crisis is not ours, it is God. In every way, we must acknowledge the will of God. If we seek his di- rection, God will reveal what steps to take, what course of action to follow. God is working through our circumstance to perform his word in bringing you out of whatever crisis you face. The desire of God for your life is always peace and the gift of grace. As we seek the Lord in prayer, we know that he hears and will answer. "And ye shall seek me, and find me when ye shall search for me with all your heart" ( Jeremiah 29:13). We invite all of you to come and worship with us. Roy Stilwell, Pastor Pam Lemond, Reporter
