Poplar Street, Petersburg Despite man's natural tendency to boast, history has proved again and again that he is a failure, in deep need of God and His grace. The Age of Innocence closed with man re- belling against his Creator and becoming a fall- en, sinful creature (Romans 5:12). The Age of Conscience opened with one murder (Genesis 4:8) and before another age was ushered in "the earth was filled with vio- lence" (Genesis 6:11). Then came Human Government, but the world's first ruler made a spectacle of himself through drunkenness (Genesis 9:20,21). Little wonder we soon find the race intoxicated with its own importance so that God had to confuse their language at Babel (Genesis 11:4, 7, 8). The Age of Promise came next, with Abra- ham failing to enter the promised land through unbelief (Genesis 11:31-12:3). It closed with Israel, his seed, failing to enter the promised land through unbelief (Heb. 3:19). The Age of Law began with Israel worship- ing a golden calf before Moses had even got- ten down from Sinai. Little wonder it ended with the rejection of Christ. The Age of Grace commenced with the Apostle Paul, God's ambassador of love and The church page is made possible by the following firms and businesses: Amber Manor Care Center Petersburg — 812-354-3001 Benner & Co. The service recognizes the beginning of Lent, the season leading up to Holy Week. A mask may be worn throughout, as you feel the need. People are noticeably unaware they are be- ing bombarded with occult images and themes daily. We find these godless occult imageries in advertisements, movies, T V shows, laws, and popular gestures. If you have children, they have innocently picked them up from their favorite music or celebrity icon and mim- ic these signs. Satanism is all around us. With- out the trained eye, everyone is oblivious to his trickery. One cannot be a serious Bible student and not intersect mysticism and the occult. The Old Testament mentions many ancient deities and cults. It may shock Bible readers to learn people in Old Testament times offered child sacrifice to these deities. The earliest deity mentioned in the Old Testament is Molech, a Canaanite deity associated with child sacri- fice. Other pagan gods mentioned in the Bi- ble are Baal, Ashtoreth, Chemosh, and Dagon. The Law of Moses forbid the worship of other gods and idols, child sacrifice, divina- tion, sorcery, fortunetelling, witchery, casting spells, holding seances, or channeling with the dead. These practices are still an abomination to GOD. God gave Israel the Ten Command- ments to regulate and order their life and wor- ship. Jesus used the first and greatest com- mandment when dealing with the devil in the wilderness; 'Be gone, Satan! For it is written, You shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.' Four Hundred years after Moses, the wis- est king that ever lived, King Solomon built the first Temple. It was magnificent and the wonder of the ancient world. Yet Solomon, in all his wisdom, fell into idolatry. The book of First Kings says Solomon worshipped Ash- toreth, and built a sacred shrine to Chemosh and to Molech on a hill just east of Jerusalem. His idolatry would be continued by successive Hello. It is time to write and I am almost idealess for things to write about. We have complained about the weather so there isn't much to say about it except we are in the sea- son where the temperatures can't seem to sta- bilize. Nobody is upset by any candidates for public office so there goes that topic, so we'll just have to do the best we can without those two big issues. I may revisit some more of my adventures as an ornery kid. Sunday morning we got a phone call from our son telling us that the smoke alarms in their house had gone off and there was smoke in their house. They did what I think was right and called for the fire department instead of looking around much. Too many of us might have looked and gotten caught off guard. The fire department investigated and found the furnace blower motor had locked up and burned. This would be a hard way to wake up, but I'm thankful we had changed their smoke alarms recently. They worked and it is fair warning to all of us to make sure we change the batteries in them as scheduled. If spring doesn't get here soon I'll be so lazy I won't be able to enjoy being outside. Come and see what ple in Noah's day, "My Spirit shall not strive with man for- ever" (Genesis 6:3). They laughed at Noah and mocked his words, and went about their usual business and their pleasures without ever dreaming he might be right. God was speaking but they ig- nored Him. Eventually God's patience gave out and by then it was to late. Outside the ark men and women struggled for their lives, clutching at piec- es of driftwood, until the piti- less hand of death reached up and drew them down beneath those cruel waves. All were lost. Every soul outside the ark perished. They had their chance, but tossed it away. You cannot come to Christ unless the Spirit of God brings you. But what if you ignore His warnings? Then you are in the gravest of danger, for someday God will no longer be speak- ing to you.
