COVID numbers continue downward trend By Andy Heuring COVID numbers in Indi- ana and Pike County are con- tinuing to trend much better as the number of new cases in Pike County in the last seven days dropped to 45. In the pre- vious week there were 79 new cases in Pike County. State-wide the number of new cases dropped from a high of 3,336 on Feb. 8 steadi- ly each about 300 each day to a low of 868 on Feb. 13 before bouncing to 1,462 on Feb. 14. The number of deaths a day ranged from 28 on Feb. 8 to 18 on Feb. 11. Hospitalizations in Indi- ana have been on a steady de- cline. On Feb. 8 there were 2,112, it fell about 100 per day to 1,600 on Feb. 14. It is the first time since Nov. 18, 2021 the number of hospitalizations has been below 1,600. About a month ago on Jan. 19 there were 3,506 hospitalization. There have been no new deaths in Pike County since Nov. 18, 2021. In Pike County schools there were 2 positives at Winslow Elementary and 1 at Pike Central High School during the week of Feb. 7 to 11. The seven-day positivity rate in Pike County was at 17.5 percent. State-wide the sev- en-day all test positivity rate is 14.2 percent. Also the num- ber of ICU beds available have increased to 21.4 percent. A-6 Wednesday, Feburar y 16, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Generations to offer free healthy living program Generations will offer "Liv- ing a Healthy Life with Chron- ic Conditions" at the Winslow Community Center, 411 East Porter St., Winslow on Tues- days from 1:30 p.m. to 4 p.m. starting March 15th. This is a six-week, self-man- agement program for individ- uals with chronic health prob- lems such as diabetes, heart disease, respiratory disease, arthritis, etc. The program is free and all materials and resources are provided. Registration is re- quired as the class is limited to 15 participants. Subjects covered include: 1) techniques to deal with problems such as frustration, fatigue, pain and isolation; 2) appropriate exercise for maintaining and improving strength, flexibility and en- durance; 3) appropriate use of medications; 4) communi- cating effectively with family, friends and health profession- als; 5) nutrition; and 6) mak- ing informed treatment deci- sions.
