ROCKIN' THE SCHOOL DAY AWAY AT WES A-4 Wednesday, Feburar y 16, 2022 The Press-Dispatch Retired gym teacher Ralph Bertram misses seeing and interacting with his students every day after retiring 10 years ago, so now he comes each year to visit and serve as a judge in the annual Winslow Elementary Twist Contest. "I miss it," Bertram said. "This is the only change I can get back and interact with what I did. A lot of kids went through this school. Criteria for the contest is based half on their costume and half on how well they can twist." Piper Thompson and Kadyn Dupin, both fourth grade students at Winslow Elementary, see how low they can go during the Twist Contest. Principal Jay Lee started the Twist Contest because he thought the stu- dents should have something fun to do in these long winter months. The Twist Contest was held in conjunction with a checkers tournament. Zain Fox, third grade, uses his best dance moves during the Winslow Elementary Twist Contest. "Jeans aren't the best thing to wear for this, I'm get- ting tired," Fox said. Emma Bailey, third grade student at Winslow El- ementary does the Twist in her red polka dot dress Friday afternoon, during the annual Twist Contest held for preschool through fifth grades. Second grade stu- dent Adan Sharp was all smiles as he par- ticipated in the WES Twist Contest on Friday. This is so much fun," Sharp said.
